Celebrating October 24 were FISH of Newtown Inc members, enjoying dinner and an anniversary cake at Newtown Country Club.

FISH is a service organization celebrating 50 years this year. The organization’s volunteers provide transportation for Newtown residents, regardless of age, who need to go to a hospital, doctor’s office, or to some other type of necessary medical appointment and who cannot drive themselves or have other means of transportation.

Members quickly filled the country club for a brief happy hour before dinner — a buffet-style dinner, keeping the dining room full for enough time to talk about the organization, celebrate its volunteers, and share stories.

First Selectman Dan Rosenthal attended, and joined in on a quick photograph with officers, including President Colleen Honan, Secretary and Scheduler Elaine Landau, Vice President Roberta Ahuja, and Treasurer Fred Stakel.

Volunteers are available Monday through Thursday. Residents who would like to request a ride can call 800-794-0034, by 4 pm, the day before they need a ride. There is a suggested donation of $5. Volunteers are needed. If interested, contact President Colleen Honan at 203-426-0714, or Elaine Landau at 203-364-1152.

Please note that FISH drivers will not be available from December 23, 2019 through January 2, 2020.
