Hazel Lillian Nelson

Loved By All

Hazel Lillian Nelson, 75, of New Milford, died October 29. Affectionately known as “Lilla” to all who loved and knew her well, she was the loving wife of Gilbert Nelson.

She was born on January 23, 1931, in Brooklyn, N.Y., daughter of Harold and Ina (Tjostolfsen) Olsen.

Besides her adoring husband, she is survived in Newtown by her daughter and son-in-law, Karen and Tony Keating and their two sons, Jeffrey and Scott; in New Milford by her daughter and son-in-law, Kristine “Kris” and John Kivela and their three children, Amy, Ashley, and Peter; and in Manchester, by her son and daughter-in-law Harold and Carol, and their two children, Gary and Laura Nelson.

Mrs Nelson graduated from Adelphi College in New York with a degree in education and subsequently taught first grade in Oceanside, N.Y.

Mrs Nelson and her husband moved to New Milford from Stamford in 2002. She was a devoted member of the First Congregational Church.

She was a devoted Christian, a loving wife, a caring mother, and a cherished grandmother. She loved spending time with children. She was also an avid pianist, adored Montauk, N.Y., and was proud of her Norwegian ancestry.

Funeral services were held November 2, at the New Milford First Congregational Church. Burial followed at Center Cemetery.
