Joey, Jennifer and Kelly Van Veen had a lot to brag about at home this week as they all scored goals to lead their respective teams in Newtown Soccer Club action this week.

Joey, Jennifer and Kelly Van Veen had a lot to brag about at home this week as they all scored goals to lead their respective teams in Newtown Soccer Club action this week.

Joey plays for the boys 13-and-under travel team while Jennifer and Kelly both toil with the Purple Pirates in the girls 14-and-under in-house program.

Here are all the results –

TRAVEL

Boys U14

New Fairfield 4, Strikers 3 – Two goals from Mike Terlaga and a goal from Mike Carrafiello were not enough as New Fairfield just pipped the Strikers. Liam Ferguson in defense was MVP with great support from Austin Jones, Greg Campbell and Michael Renz. George Delia pressured for Newtown.

Goshen 4, Strikers 1 – Three second half Goshen goals sank the Strikers after a dominating first half performance. Mike Terlaga scored the Strikers’ goal. James Radcliffe, Russell Morgan, Dakota Voliotes and Stephen Zarifis all played well for the Strikers.

Litchfield 4, Strikers 0 – Amidst gusting winds and snow flurries the Strikers lost an evenly fought game to Litchfield. James Radcliffe, Mike Carrafiello, and Russell Morgan all had shots saved well by the Litchfield keeper. Christian Gregoire and Aaron Nezvesky were the MVPs for the Strikers, while Mike Renz, Greg Campbell, Austin Jones and Liam Ferguson battled hard in defense for Newtown.

Girls U14

Roadrunners 3, New Milford 1 – The ‘Runners fell behind 1-0 in the second half but rallied for three goals to pull out the victory. Kaitlin Brophy and Sara Attanasio scored off assists by Ali Fuentes and Sarah Murtha. Shannon Paproski finished the scoring on a great individual effort. Kelly O’Connor and Sarah Attanasio were outstanding on defense.

 

Boys U13

Litchfield 3, Newtown 2 – Justin Brophy and Joey Van Veen scored the goals as John Imbimbo notched both assists in a loss to Litchfield.

Girls U12

Flash 4, Watertown 2 – Brittany Tolla scored two goals while Melissa Buccino and Lindsay Jossick scored solo goals to lead the Flash past Watertown. Christina Gould and Jossick registered assists while Kristy Papaj, Morgan Kirol, Kristen Grabowski, Tressa Scott and Katie Shirley anchored the defense.

Girls U11

Southbury 1, Newtown 0 – The locals played a strong game under windy conditions. Danielle Shine was solid in net, making eight saves, as Jamison Fletcher – who missed all of last season with a broken foot – played well at midfield. Tess Murray and Lindsey Jagoe played well on defense as Jaclyn Daily, Taylor Brady, Serina Kiss and Angela Halili had nice performances.

Boys U11

Brookfield 2, Beasts 1 – Jordan Sock scored the lone Newtown goal off an assist by Jonah Muniz. Doug Miller, Matt Rosa and Sam Boland had a strong game applying pressure on offense. The defense was led by Matt Baldino, Adam Hufziger and Logan Puleri.

Girls U10

Lightning 1, Yankee United 1 – Jessica Keller had a great game, scoring the Lightning’s only goal in a 1-1 draw. Sarah Lynch displayed her versatility with strong play on both offense and defense while Meaghan Brophy and Megan Meyer also provided offensive power in a well-fought contest. Siena Cicarelli was key in the net, making a fantastic save in the last minute of the game to preserve the tie for the Lightning.

Boys U10

White Lightning 2, Brookfield 0 – Clay Gattey and Brenton Scott scored the goals that lifted the Lightning to the win. Constant Gregoire and Nathyn Horvath notched assists as Kaj Djonne, Kevin Droniak and Sawyer Conrad controlled midfield. Graham Hubbert anchored the defense and Kevin Ovendorf made a great save on a penalty kick to keep the shutout. The Lightning improved to 9-5 overall and 3-3 in the division.

IN-HOUSE

Girls U14

Purple Pirates 4, Dominators 2 – Daniella Genovese, Tami Corsi, and Randi Jackson all scored their first goals of the season to lead the Purple Pirates to the win. Emily Lones also scored while Katie Peters played great in goal and on defense. Ali Blume played well. For the Dominators, Jennifer and Kelly Van Veen all scored while Bianca LeBlanc played well in goal. Kerri Chernoff and Libby DeDomizio made solid contributions.

The Rage 3, Danbury 0 – Ashley Cirone scored two goals and Emily Dion added a third as the Rage exploded in a three-goal second half to top Danbury. Claire Miles and Katelyn D’Andrea also supplied lots of offensive pressure. Claire Bernson was a strong presence at midfield, and Ria Mitra and Katie Burns anchored a rock-solid defense.

Boys U14

TNT 1, Danbury Blitz 1 – Tommy Cassin scored TNT’s lone goal off an assist from Blake Obre-Untiedt in this close game. Tom Giarratano, Paolo Moscovici and Mike Terlaga all gave strong performances in midfield. Dan Olszewski and Peter Kerns contributed an effective defense.

Boys U8

Rockets 4, Yankees 1 – Chris Rovelli scored a pair of goals and Mark Urso and Thomas Gavel each scored one to boost the Rockets to win. Zachary Laros and Jack Wellman both had an all-round great game. For the Yankees, Declan Sullivan scored the lone goal as Graham Dowd and Gregg Trimarchi had strong games at midfield, assisting both on offense and defense. Grant Varnum had a great all round game.

Lightning Bolts 1, Patriots 0 – Matthew Bucci scored the lone goal to lead the Bolts to the win. Ryan Norton and Ben Dieckman were solid on defense as Matthew Kretz led the offense and Brendan Crowe was superb in goal. For the Patriots, Barrett de Young, Matt Principi, Justin Cicarelli and Owen Walsh played great on both sides of the ball.
