To the Editor:

I was so impressed reading [a letter] (The Newtown Bee, October 30, 2020, “Help Make The World Better”) written by two young girls, Clare and Ella, and their experience with nature. Most girls this age are putting most of their energy into their i-phones and are completely disconnected from the beauty and serenity that nature has to offer.

I also developed a love of nature around 8 years old, and here I am, still connected to the beauty of nature 70 years later.

I still receive great satisfaction through nature photography, feeding my birds, fish, or just hiking. Mother Nature is not very happy with us as we note on the 6:30 news between hurricanes, floods, and forest fires.

Nothing gives me more satisfaction than sharing the beauty of nature with my four grandchildren, who are Clare and Ella’s age.

The Newtown Lions Club has taken on the responsibility of maintaining Orchard Hill, which is a beautiful 38-acre park on Huntingtown Road in Newtown.

This Saturday, November 7, the Lions Club is going to have a morning work get together beginning at 9 am to enhance the park, which includes clearing trails painting signs, etc.

So Clare and Ella, we would like you and your parents to join us for a fun morning. After seeing this park you will agree with us that it’s the best kept secret in town. Going south on Rte. 25, make a right on Huntingtown, and it’s a half mile up on the right.

Anyone else who would like to join us is welcome. Feel free to bring your own rakes and clippers, and please, wear a mask.
