“Minor Injuries For Driver After Truck Crashes Into King’s Restaurant,” by Shannon Hicks, published October 21. King’s Restaurant is going to be closed for a while, after an overnight crash reportedly moved the original section of the building approximately 18 inches. “NHS Student Proves The ‘Power Of A Wish,’” by Eliza Hallabeck, published October 27. Newtown High School senior Cameron Powers, who has cystic fibrosis, chose to use her one wish granted by Make-A-Wish Connecticut to give back to her school by having a newly furnished space for Unified Program students to enjoy created. “Officials Vow Virtual Meeting Hackers Will Be Prosecuted,” by John Voket, published October 26. Unscrupulous hackers who have interrupted video conferences being held among Newtown groups at least three times in recent days will be prosecuted “to the fullest extent of the law,” according to First Selectman Dan Rosenthal. “Richard Crafts Moved To Homeless Shelter For Veterans,” by Andrew Gorosko, published January 30. Richard Crafts, the former Newtown resident who has served a lengthy prison sentence for the November 1986 murder of his wife Helle, on January 29 was moved from the Isaiah House halfway house in Bridgeport to a homeless shelter for veterans, which is also in Bridgeport, as part of Crafts’s ongoing transition from prison life to a full release from custody. “Breast Cancer Survivor Remaining Positive Despite ‘Crazy Roller Coaster Ride’ Since Diagnosis,” by John Voket, published October 26. Some people just do not like roller coasters — especially when they are figuratively strapped in and compelled to take the ride. Such is the case with Newtown resident Alissa Heizler Mendoza, who despite an ongoing series of highs and lows since she was diagnosed with breast cancer, continues to remain a hopeful and inspiring example of cancer survival to her family, friends, and community.
