Amid two “Spirit Weeks” Newtown High School hosted a pep rally for the entire student body at Blue & Gold Stadium on October 28.

That event came at the end of the first Spirit Week and was held on “Blue & Gold Day,” filling the bleachers with students decked out in their school colors.

“History re-starts with the first NHS Pep Rally in four years,” said NHS teacher and emcee for the event Jay Edwards.

As students cheered in the stadium, sports team leaders were introduced, and club leaders highlighted all kinds of activities being offered to student participants.

Musical performances were also provided by the NHS Singers, along with members of the high school’s marching band. Later the school’s dance team and varsity cheer leaders performed.

Members of the school’s Unified Sports program also participated in a soccer match.

“Ladies and gentlemen, give it up for your new favorite sport: Unified Soccer!” Edwards cheered at the end of the match.

And before the event concluded, students from different clubs and sports faced off in a game of tug-of-war.

The October 24 to 28 Spirit Week themes were Adam Sandler Day, Twin Day, Color Wars, Formal Day, Blue & Gold Day. The October 31 to November 4 Spirit Week themes were Halloween Day, Bikers Vs Surfers, Decades Day, Celebrity Day, and Pajama Day.

The school’s Homecoming Dance is slated for November 7. Parents can submit photos to The Newtown Bee for possible publication in the November 11 print edition, by emailing photos with the names of those pictured from left right to eliza@thebee.com no later than 10 am on November 8.
