Montague G. Miller

Montague G. Miller, 79, of Noank, formerly of Newtown, beloved husband of Claire and father of Pam, Nancy, and Jane, died unexpectedly on October 27.

Born July 22, 1925, he was the son of the late Adeline and Albert Miller and brother of the late Richard Miller. He will be dearly missed by all whose lives he touched.

Married to Claire Kopp in 1949, Monty’s greatest loves were his family, friends, and church. He was an accomplished lifelong sailing enthusiast and in his retirement an active ham radio enthusiast and an avid fan of the UConn women’s basketball teams. His greatest joy was traveling to visit family and friends in his RV. Monty was an extraordinary man who will be remembered by all who knew him for his warmth and genuine kindness, his enthusiasm for life, and unconditional service to his community, church, and country.

Monty served in the US Navy from 1943 to 1946. He earned the Asiatic Pacific Area Campaign Medal, the American Area Campaign Medal, the World War II Victory Medal, and the Combat Air Crewman Wings.

He was an alumnus of Dartmouth College and the University of Maine. A longtime resident of Newtown, Monty was an engineer at Sikorsky Aircraft and Gilbert and Bennett Manufacturing for many years. He was a real estate developer in Newtown until relocating to Noank in 1975, where he continued his real estate career until his retirement

Monty is survived by his wife Claire, daughters Pam Tibbitts of Bethel, Nancy Osborn of Worcester, Mass., Jane Kenny of Manchester, their husbands, and his seven grandchildren, and his sister Millicent Terrell and family of Florida.

A celebration of his life will be held at 11 am, Saturday, November 6, at the Noank Baptist Church, 18 Cathedral Street, Noank. A reception will follow at the church.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Noank Baptist Church in his memory.
