Clayton Buchanan To Lead

Next SCAN Program

The Society of Creative Arts of Newtown (SCAN) will welcome Clayton Buchanan of Newburg, N.Y., who will offer a demonstration on working with pastel on Wednesday, November 10, at 7:30 pm.

Mr Buchanan will be painting a head and shoulders from a live model. The program meeting is open to the public and will be in the lower level of Newtown Meeting House, 31 Main Street in Newtown (at the flagpole).

Clayton Buchanan paints those pieces of nature that speak to him through light, color, structure, and emotion. He has been fascinated with the Impressionist color concept for over 40 years, and is still learning from nature.

Looking for moments that come and go with the blink of an eye is a challenge for him to capture. Many of his figurative paintings are those moments, frozen in time, that capture life in movement, giving us a chance to recognize that fleeting beauty of light and color so easily lost forever.

Mr Buchanan’s paintings are in private and corporate collections including the Elizabeth T. Greenshields Memorial Foundation, Montreal, CAN, and Northern Dutchess Hospital, Rhinebeck, N.Y. The award winning artist has done portrait commissions throughout the Northeast and South, and is currently conducting demonstrations and workshops.

Admission is free for SCAN programs and reservations are not necessary. For additional information, however, call Ruth Newquist at 203-426-6654.
