DUI Arrest

After learning that police held a warrant for his arrest, Jeffrey Rushworth, 49, of West Haven went to the police station on the afternoon of November 2, and was charged with driving under the influence, following too closely, and driving under suspension, police said.

The charges stem from a nighttime August 5 motor vehicle accident in which Rushworth was involved at the intersection of South Main Street, Botsford Hill Road and Meadow Brook Road.

In that incident, Rushworth, who was driving a sedan southward on South Main Street, struck the rear end of a southbound SUV, which was waiting at a traffic signal. The sedan then struck a utility pole.

After arrest processing on November 2, police released Rushworth on $10,000 bail for a November 16 court appearance to answer the charges.

Mercedes Vs Subaru

A two-vehicle accident occurred about 5:44 pm on October 22 near 83 Berkshire Road, police report.

Police said the collision involved a 2005 Mercedes-Benz sedan driven by Shafi Kalici, 37, of Seymour, and a 2009 Subaru sedan driven by Katherine Harding, 23, of Oxford. There were no injuries.

Police said they issued Kalici an infraction for failure to drive a reasonable distance apart.

Warrant

After he learned that police held a warrant for his arrest, Anthony Lucia, 19, of 36 Huntingtown Road turned himself over to police at the police station on the morning of October 23 and was charged conspiracy to commit first-degree criminal mischief, according to police.

The charge stems from a July 29 incident. After he posted $100 bail, police released Lucia for a November 9 court appearance.

Vehicular Vandalism

Police report that someone sometime between 6:40 am and 1:45 pm on October 27, scratched the letter “X” onto the paint finish of the rear driver’s side door of a vehicle which was parked in the parking lot at Newtown High School at 12 Berkshire Road. Police ask anyone with knowledge of who vandalized the vehicle to contact Officer John McCluskey at the police station.

Items Stolen

Police report that someone sometime between October 24 and October 27 stole various unspecified items from a backyard shed at an unspecified home on Taunton Hill Road. Police ask anyone with knowledge of the crime to contact them.

Currituck Crash

Motorist Alexandra Fuentes of 7 Autumn Ridge Road, who was driving a 2005 Honda coupe southward on Currituck Road, near its intersection with Butterfield Road, about 11 pm, October 29, encountered a deer which had run onto the road, police said. The vehicle and the deer collided.

Fuentes was not injured. Police took no enforcement.

Mailbox Mischief

Police report that sometime between October 29 and October 30, someone vandalized multiple mailboxes in the areas of Castle Hill Road and Taunton Hill Road. Police ask anyone with knowledge of the vandalism to contact Officer Bart Lorancaitis at the police station.

Miya Lane

Police said they are investigating some vandalism which occurred to residences in the Miya Lane area on October 31. Police ask anyone with information on the matter to contact them at the police station.

Halloween Vandalism

Police incident logs list nine calls that police received on Halloween, October 31, from residents reporting vandalism.

Those calls were placed to police from residents on: Cobblers Mill Road, Tunnel Road, Old Farm Hill Road, Maltbie Road, Old Hawleyville Road, Fawnwood Road, Bears Hill Road, Miya Lane, and Plumtrees Road. The incidents are under investigation.
