DUI Incident

Police report that at about 1:15 am on October 30, they found a 1993 Jeep Cherokee SUV facing eastward in a ditch while off the westbound road shoulder, near 87 Riverside Road.

Police said that motorist Thomas Murphy, 52, of 51 Laurel Trail was found in the vehicle’s driver’s seat where he was attempting to get the SUV into gear.

Following an investigation, police charged Murphy with driving under the influence, making a restricted turn, driving without automotive insurance, and failure to renew a vehicle registration.

After processing, police released Murphy on $100 bail for a November 16 court appearance.

Honda Crash

Motorist Bozena Mastrogiannis, 51, of Wolcott was driving a 2005 Honda sedan northward near 112 Toddy Hill Road at about 11:08 pm on October 25, when a deer ran out onto the street, police report.

The Honda and deer collided. Mastrogiannis was not injured. Police took no enforcement.

Busy Intersection

 About 4:30 pm on October 27, motorist Ishita De, 23, of Southbury, who was driving a 1999 Volvo sedan, was waiting on northbound South Main Street in a right-turn-only lane for Mile Hill Road, police report.

Motorist Thomas O’Neill, 55, of 6 Hemlock Road, who was driving a 1999 Chevrolet pickup truck northward, then struck the rear end of the Volvo, police said.

Ambulance volunteers transported De to Danbury Hospital to be checked for neck pain, police said.

Police issued O’Neill an infraction for failure to drive a reasonable distance apart. Police issued De an infraction for a vehicle registration violation.

Berkshire Road Collision

About 4:15 pm on October 27, during rainy conditions on wet roadways, motorist Victoria Jackson, 38, of Campbell Hall, N.Y., who was driving a 2008 Acura sedan eastward on Berkshire Road (Route 34), slowed while negotiating a curve on Berkshire Road, near Old Mill Road, police said.

Eastbound motorist Susan Pagano, 39, of Shelton, who was driving a 2005 Toyota SUV, then struck the Acura from behind, police said.

There were no injuries. Police said they issued Pagano a written warning for following too closely.

Dodge Vs Ford

Police report a two-vehicle collision near 33 Berkshire Road about 4 pm on October 27.

In that incident, westbound motorist Linda Pancrazio, 44, of Woodbury, who was driving a 2003 Ford SUV, stopped for traffic conditions and was then struck from behind by westbound motorist Carolyn Pharo, no age given, of Southbury, who was driving a 2003 Dodge station wagon, police said.

There were no injuries. Pharo received a verbal warning for failure to drive a reasonable distance apart, police said.

Commercial Van

Angel Portilla, 37, of New Milford was driving a commercial 1999 Ford van about 6:40 am on October 24, when while negotiating a curve in the westbound lane near 109 Berkshire Road, the van went into a skid and struck some curbing along the eastbound road shoulder, police report.

Portilla was not injured. Portilla received an infraction for traveling unreasonably fast, police report.

ATV Incident

About 10:30 am on October 30, a male youth was driving a 2004 Honda all-terrain vehicle (ATV) in a residential front yard, as motorist Stephen Baye, 53, of 3 Cedar Circle was driving a 2009 Mercedes-Benz sedan westward on Cedar Circle, police said.

The ATV then exited the front yard and collided with the Mercedes, police said.

There were no injuries. Police issued the youth a misdemeanor summons for a court appearance on a charge of driving an unregistered ATV. Such vehicles are intended for off-road use only. Police did not disclose the identity of the ATV rider, who is under age 18.

Warrant Executed

Police report that after they came into contact with Christopher Basso, 20, of 21 Taunton Lake Drive early on the morning of October 27 in connection with another matter, they realized that there was a pending arrest warrant against Basso for his alleged failure to respond to an infraction.

Police said that the warrant stems from a January 28 incident in which Basso was issued an infraction for alleged possession of alcohol by a minor in a motor vehicle or in a public place.

Basso was scheduled for a court appearance on the matter, police said.

Honda Hits Toyota

Motorist David Hyde, 18, of 3 Owl Ridge Lane, who was driving a 1998 Toyota sedan northward on South Main Street, near Appleblossom Lane, about 10:45 am October 31, slowed for traffic conditions and was then struck from behind by northbound motorist Gina Fenaroli, 20, of 63 Tomahawk Trail, who was driving a 1998 Honda SUV, according to police.

There were no injuries. Fenaroli received an infraction for failure to drive a reasonable distance apart, police said.

Highway Crash

State police said that motorist Joseph Christiano, 18, of Bethel was driving a 2001 Honda Civic on the Exit 10 on-ramp for eastbound Interstate 84 at about 10:50 am October 27 during wet conditions, when the vehicle went into a spin and then struck some guardcables.

Christiano was not injured. Enforcement information was not available.

Jeep Wrangler

Motorist Crystal Comblo, 20, of Monroe was driving a 1995 Jeep Wrangler on the common Exit 11 on-ramp for eastbound/westbound Interstate 84 about 9:30 pm October 25, when she lost control of the auto and it went off the road and entered a wooded area, state police said.

Comblo was not injured. Enforcement information was not available.

Chrysler Accident

State police report that motorist Vincent Guiliano, 55, of River Edge, N.J., was driving a 2003 Chrysler 300 sedan westward on Interstate 84, near Exit 11, about 3 pm October 24, when the vehicle went off the road to the left and struck some guardrails.

Guiliano was not injured. Enforcement information was not available.

South Main

Police report that they responded to the area of 83 South Main Street about 7 am on November 1 on the report that two vehicles traveling there had struck a deer.

The deer was struck by a 2006 Honda SUV driven by Virginia Berg, 58, of 5 John Beach Road, police said. The deer also was struck by motorist Don Cervone, 41, of 8 Cedar Hill Road, who was driving a 2007 Nissan SUV, police report.

Neither driver was injured. Police issued no enforcement.

Warrant

After learning that police held a warrant against him, Stacey Zimmerman, 37, of 22 Bankside Trail went to the police station on the afternoon of November 1, and was charged with failure to respond to an infraction, police said. That infraction had been issued to Zimmerman on May 16 for allegedly allowing a dog to roam, police said.

After posting $92 bail, Zimmerman was released for a May 16 court appearance, police said.

Vehicle Key Found

Police report that on November 1, a Walt Disney-brand key chain was found near the soccer fields at Fairfield Hills. The key chain has an inscription with the words “I Love Mom.” The key chain holds a single key to a Ford motor vehicle. The chain also has an electronic vehicle door opener attached. The owner may claim the item at the police station at 3 Main Street.

DUI Arrest

After learning that police held a warrant for his arrest, Jeffrey Rushworth, 49, of West Haven went to the police station on the afternoon of November 2, and was charged with driving under the influence, following too closely, and driving under suspension, police said.

The charges stem from a nighttime August 5 motor vehicle accident in which Rushworth was involved at the intersection of South Main Street, Botsford Hill Road and Meadow Brook Road.

In that incident, Rushworth, who was driving a sedan southward on South Main Street, struck the rear end of a southbound SUV, which was waiting at a traffic signal. The sedan then struck a utility pole.

After arrest processing on November 2, police released Rushworth on $10,000 bail for a November 16 court appearance to answer the charges.

Mercedes Vs Subaru

A two-vehicle accident occurred about 5:44 pm on October 22 near 83 Berkshire Road, police report.

Police said the collision involved a 2005 Mercedes-Benz sedan driven by Shafi Kalici, 37, of Seymour, and a 2009 Subaru sedan driven by Katherine Harding, 23, of Oxford. There were no injuries.

Police said they issued Kalici an infraction for failure to drive a reasonable distance apart.

Warrant

After he learned that police held a warrant for his arrest, Anthony Lucia, 19, of 36 Huntingtown Road turned himself over to police at the police station on the morning of October 23 and was charged conspiracy to commit first-degree criminal mischief, according to police.

The charge stems from a July 29 incident. After he posted $100 bail, police released Lucia for a November 9 court appearance.

Vehicular Vandalism

Police report that someone sometime between 6:40 am and 1:45 pm on October 27, scratched the letter “X” onto the paint finish of the rear driver’s side door of a vehicle which was parked in the parking lot at Newtown High School at 12 Berkshire Road. Police ask anyone with knowledge of who vandalized the vehicle to contact Officer John McCluskey at the police station.

Items Stolen

Police report that someone sometime between October 24 and October 27 stole various unspecified items from a backyard shed at an unspecified home on Taunton Hill Road. Police ask anyone with knowledge of the crime to contact them.

Currituck Crash

Motorist Alexandra Fuentes of 7 Autumn Ridge Road, who was driving a 2005 Honda coupe southward on Currituck Road, near its intersection with Butterfield Road, about 11 pm, October 29, encountered a deer which had run onto the road, police said. The vehicle and the deer collided.

Fuentes was not injured. Police took no enforcement.

Mailbox Mischief

Police report that sometime between October 29 and October 30, someone vandalized multiple mailboxes in the areas of Castle Hill Road and Taunton Hill Road. Police ask anyone with knowledge of the vandalism to contact Officer Bart Lorancaitis at the police station.

Miya Lane

Police said they are investigating some vandalism which occurred to residences in the Miya Lane area on October 31. Police ask anyone with information on the matter to contact them at the police station.

Halloween Vandalism

Police incident logs list nine calls that police received on Halloween, October 31, from residents reporting vandalism.

Those calls were placed to police from residents on: Cobblers Mill Road, Tunnel Road, Old Farm Hill Road, Maltbie Road, Old Hawleyville Road, Fawnwood Road, Bears Hill Road, Miya Lane, and Plumtrees Road. The incidents are under investigation.
