Hammar

Beloved Wife And Mother

Nancy B. Hammar, 73, longtime resident of Newtown, died peacefully in her home, October 29, surrounded by family and friends. She was born April, 1, 1937, to Marjorie and Louis Nagy in Norwalk.

She graduated from Norwalk High School and worked as a dental assistant, and later as a child caregiver.

Mrs Hammar’s love of children and her passion for reading lead her to provide many years of volunteer service in the Newtown School System libraries. She loved all animals and shared her life with many pets, from her childhood pet chicken, Miss Elsie, to her Siamese cats Cleo, Murphy, Suki, and Loki.

She is survived by her husband of 53 years, Alan J. Hammar; her son and daughter-in-law John and Kristen Hammar of Newtown; her daughter and son-in-law Dale and Michael Ventres of Bethlehem; and her aunt and uncle Norma and Raymond Pavlik of Florida.

Friends and family may call at a memorial gathering, scheduled for Thursday, November 4, at the Honan Funeral Home, 58 Main Street, Newtown, from 5 to 8 pm.

Memorial gifts may be made to Regional Hospice of Western Connecticut, 405 Main Street, Danbury CT 06810 or regionalhospicect.org.
