To the Editor:

I was saddened to witness a verbal attack on my friend who is a Legislative Council member last night after an ordinance meeting. I was standing with this member when an adult made some very unkind comments when speaking with her. A few minutes later another adult approached her and screamed a personal attack at her. All of this took place after my friend had approached some students to thank them for coming and speaking at the meeting even though they had different opinions than her. The students were respectful.

This is just one instance but it is not isolated. As we all know, personal attacks on social media about those currently in office and running for office are constant and many times hostile.

People have different opinions and views and those should be openly discussed without worry of intimidation or personal attacks. I hope someday we can get back to it being Nicer in Newtown.
