Fischer Breaks Breaststroke Record And Relay Takes First In SWC Championships

MONROE — Newtown High School's girls' swimming and diving team competed in the South-West Conference Championships in early November; the diving competition took place at New Fairfield High on November 1 and the swim events were held at Masuk High on November 5.

Grace Fischer broke the Newtown High School record in the 100 breaststroke race and the 200 yard freestyle relay team was first as the Nighthawks placed third. Pomperaug of Southbury was first and Weston earned second.

Fischer placed third in the breaststroke event with a time of 1:08.09.

The winning relay of Diella Limani, Anna Shew, Zoe Petertonjes, and Alexa Kwarcinski finished in a time of 1:42.65.

Newtown’s 200 medley relay of Ella Seaver, Grace Fischer, Petertonjes, and Kwarcinski was second in 1:51.87.

Limani was fourth in the 200 free in 2:04.04 and sixth in the 100 in 56.47. Petertonjes was fourth in the 50 in 25.58 and fifth in the 100 butterfly in 1:00.83.

Kwarcinski came in third in the 200 individual medley with a time of 2:16.64 and was fourth in the backstroke in 1:09.02.

Fischer took fifth in the 200 IM in 2:19.22.

The 400 free relay of Lauren Smiley, Maddy Watson, Seaver, and Limani placed fifth in 3:55.11.

Diver Ella Hall placed sixth with a score of 302.30.
