STRATFORD — In a battle of the top two South-West Conference teams, No. 1 defeated No. 2 in four games of the girls’ volleyball championship match. Joel Barlow of Redding defeated Newtown High School 3-1 (27-25, 25-11, 23-25, 25-16) at neutral site Bunnell High on November 5.

Gianna Galassi had three of Newtown’s seven aces and four digs; Grace Miller logged two aces to go along with 12 kills, and seven digs.

Amaro Beard-Galati, Ella Stubbs, and Zosia Teraszkiewicz all registered four kills and Teraszkiewicz had four digs. Bella Rio racked up seven digs. Lauren Young had three kills.

Liz Anesi registered two blocks. Haley Austermann tallied 16 assists and Gabby Soltis had 13 assists.
