A Very Successful Clothing Drive At St Rose

The new Gathering Hall at St Rose School was put to good use recently, serving as a collection point and working space for the annual Fall Clothing Drive by The Social Concerns Committee of St Rose of Lima.

The effort provides warm winter clothing to hundreds of people in the greater Bridgeport and Danbury areas, as well as to several St Rose families who find themselves in need.

The drive is supported by the Knights of Columbus, Virgilius Council 185, The St Rose Do-Gooders and other youth volunteers, and parishioners young and old.

“In fact we had a 2½-year-old working right beside her brother, sister, mom and dad this year,” said St Rose member Fred Dwyer.

During the week of October 17–23, members of St Rose dropped off donations in the Gathering Hall. Then on October 24, dozens of volunteers spent time at the Gathering Hall, where they sorted the articles of clothing and loaded them into the vans and trucks, which were also volunteered for the day.

“The new Gathering Hall provided a wonderful working space, which was sorely needed to handle the huge volume of clothing collected,” said Mr Dwyer.
