Berkshire Road

About 1:22 pm on October 27, a two-vehicle collision occurred on Berkshire Road (Route 34), near the Misty Vale Deli & General Store.

Brittany Williams, 19, of 10 Washbrook Road was driving a 2006 Ford Freestar minivan owned by MTM Transportation Company, which was carrying passenger Gregory Cassella, 18, of 9 Thunder Ridge Road, police said. MTM transports school students.

Muriel Hastedt, 54, of 11 Sand Hill Road was driving a 2004 GMC Yukon SUV, according to police.

Police said that the Ford stopped on Berkshire Road to allow a noncontact vehicle to exit the deli’s parking lot and make a left turn onto Berkshire Road. The GMC, which was traveling behind the Ford, did not stop in time and slid on the wet pavement, striking the rear end of the Ford, police said.

Both occupants of the Ford reported having injured their heads in the collision, police said. Both people were treated at the scene by Newtown Volunteer Ambulance Corps members and both declined to be transported to the hospital, police said. Sandy Hook Volunteer Fire and Rescue Company members responded to the accident scene.

Police said they gave Hastedt a written warning for following too closely.

Vandalism

Sometime between 7:30 am and 1 pm on October 27, someone intentionally damaged a curbside residential mailbox on Boggs Hill Road. The mailbox is near Boggs Hill Road’s intersection with Dover Circle. Police are investigating the case of third-degree criminal mischief and ask anyone with knowledge of the incident to contact them at 426-5841, or at the police tip line at 270-8888.

Wasserman Way

Police report that they stopped motorist Latzi Mendez, 32, of Fairfield on Wasserman Way at about 10:20 pm on October 26 to investigate.

Mendez was charged with driving without brake lamps and also with driving while under suspension, according to police. Mendez posted $100 bail for a November 6 appearance in Danbury Superior Court.

Truck Into Lightpost

About 10:30 am on October 10, motorist Jesse Gregory, 30, of 9 Valley Field Road South was backing up a 2003 Ford F-550 truck in the parking lot at the Citgo gas station at 151 South Main Street, when the truck struck a nonworking lightpost there, police said. Police verbally warned Gregory for unsafe backing.

Dodgingtown Market

Motorist Mary Merrill, 66, of 1 Dover Circle, who was driving a 1999 Subaru Outback about noon on October 16, was attempting to back out of a parking space in the parking lot at Dodgingtown Market at 57 Dodgingtown Road (Route 302), when the Subaru hit a parked 2003 International truck, police report. There were no injuries. Police took no enforcement.

Chain Reaction

A three-vehicle chain-reaction collision occurred on southbound Main Street, near the police station, about 11:30 am October 9, according to police.

Motorist Frank Bumbera, 48, of Plantsville, who was driving a 2007 Ford, was stopped at a red traffic signal, police said. Motorist Joanne Davis, 53, of 40 Horseshoe Ridge Road, who was driving a 2008 Honda Odyssey minivan, stopped behind the Ford, police said. Motorist William Rooney, 35, of 2 Dogwood Terrace, who was driving a 2002 Chevrolet CK-1500 truck, stopped behind the Honda, police said.

The Chevrolet then moved forward, hitting the rear end of the Honda, pushing the Honda into the rear end of the Ford, according to police.

There were no injuries. Police gave Rooney a written warning for failure to drive a reasonable distance apart.

South Main Street

Motorist Jay Lang, 39, of Fairfield was driving a 2004 Honda Civic coupe northward on South Main Street, near Sand Hill Plaza, about 6:45 am October 27 when a deer ran out onto the street and collided with the auto, police report. Lang was not injured. Police took no enforcement.

Hawleyville Crash

About 6:36 am October 28, Ann Lancaster, 56, of 9 Farrell Road, who was driving a 2004 Ford Explorer SUV, was attempting the exit the parking lot at 26 Hawleyville Road and make a left turn onto southbound Hawleyville Road, as motorist Andrew Dilaurenzio, 23, of Bethlehem was driving a 1987 Pontiac Firebird coupe northward on Hawleyville Road, police said.

The two vehicles collided. There were no injuries. Police issued Lancaster an infraction for failure to grant the right of way.

Church Hill Road

Motorist Joseph Walsh, 64, of Seymour, who was driving a 2002 Acura sedan westward on Church Hill Road about 2:30 pm October 27, stopped and was waiting for eastbound traffic to clear so that he could make a left turn into the driveway at the St Rose Church campus, police report.

Westbound motorist Christopher Proulx, 21, of Canaan, who was driving a 2000 Subaru sedan, then struck the rear end of the Acura, police said.

There were no injuries. Police verbally warned Proulx for following too closely.

Parking Lot

About 12:15 pm October 27, motorist Kenneth Carlson, 73, was driving a 2003 Ford E-350 van that was carrying five adult passengers in a parking lot at Booth Library at 25 Main Street, police said. In maneuvering in the parking lot, the Ford struck a parked 2004 Subaru Forester, police said. There were no injuries. Police took no enforcement.

Acura Vs Acura

Police report a two-vehicle collision at the hazardous offset four-way intersection of South Main Street, Country Club Road, and Mile Hill Road at about 5:45 pm October 28.

Motorist Kelly Teraszkiewicz, 35, of 202 Brushy Hill Road, who was driving a 1998 Acura Integra sedan northward on South Main Street, was attempting to turn left onto westbound Country Club Road, police said.

At that time, the driver of a noncontact vehicle, which was southbound on South Main Street in the left-turn-only lane for Mile Hill Road, stopped in order to provide space for the Acura Integra to make the left turn onto Country Club Road, police said.

However, motorist Victor George, 65, of Easton, who was driving a 2004 Acura RL sedan southward on South Main Street in the straight-through lane, then collided with Acura Integra, police report.

There were no injuries. Police issued Teraszkiewicz a written warning for failure to grant the right of way.

Scudder Road

Motorist Erich Dinnan, 20, of 23 Lake Road was driving a 1998 Ford Ranger pickup truck southward on Scudder Road about 7 pm October 28, as motorist Eric Quinn, 25, of 17 Scudder Road was driving a 2001 Subaru Legacy sedan northward there, according to police.

Dinnan said he lost control of the Ford, crossed the road’s center line and collided with the Subaru, police report. There were no injuries. Dinnan received a written warning for failure to drive to the right, according to police.

Garbage Truck

At about noon on October 28, William Pendergast, 31, of Riverside Road, who was driving a 2007 GMC garbage truck, stopped and was waiting in a line of traffic at a traffic signal on northbound Berkshire Road at its intersection with Wasserman Way, police said.

At that time, motorist Jeffrey Horberg, 18, of Villas, N.J., who was driving a 1990 Jeep SUV eastward on Wasserman Way, was attempting to make a right turn onto southbound Berkshire Road, police said.

As the Jeep was making the right turn, it skidded on the wet pavement and collided with the stopped garbage truck, police said.

Ambulance staffers evaluated Horberg at the scene and released him, police report. Pendergast refused treatment, according to police.

Police gave Horberg a written warning for traveling too fast for conditions.

Dodge Vs Deer

Matthew Rees, 29, of Wilton was driving a 2002 Dodge Durango SUV southward on South Main Street, near Lovell’s Lane, about 5:40 am October 28, when a deer ran onto the road, resulting in a collision, police said. Rees was not injured. Police took no enforcement.

U-Turn

Motorist Lindsay Rizzuto, 18, of Bethel was driving a 2000 Oldsmobile Intrigue sedan northward on Hawleyville Road, near its intersection with Farrell Road, about 1:15 pm October 27, when she rounded a curve on Hawleyville Road and then attempted to make a U-turn to head back southward on that street, police said.

Due to the hilly terrain in that area, motorist Kelly MacFarlane, 62, of Brookfield, who was driving a 2005 Subaru Outback station wagon northward behind the Oldsmobile, could not see that the Oldsmobile was making a U-turn and on rounding that curve in the road, the Subaru collided with the Oldsmobile, police said.

There were no injuries. Police issued Rizzuto an infraction for a turning violation.

VW Vs Isuzu

Police report a two-vehicle accident at the hazardous northern intersection of South Main Street and Peck’s Lane about 9:45 am October 26.

The collision involved motorist Elizabeth Gannon, 47, of 5 Peck’s Lane, who was driving a 1999 Volkswagen Jetta, and William Martinez, Jr, 25, of Bridgeport, who was driving a commercial 2006 Isuzu truck, police said.

Police said ambulance volunteers treated Martinez at the scene for neck/back pain, but did not transport him. Police issued Gannon a written warning for failure to grant the right of way.

Vandalism

Police report they are investigating a case of vandalism that occurred at a rural residential property at 42 Hundred Acres Road, most likely overnight on October 9/October 10.

The damage included some spray-painted graffiti obscenities on buildings at the large property, as well as some broken windows at the main house there, police said.

Police ask anyone with information on who committed the vandalism to contact them at 426-5841, or at tip line 270-8888.

Evading Responsibility

Police report a motor vehicle accident in which the offender evaded responsibility by driving away from the scene of the crash after it occurred.

About 11 pm October 28, a person who was driving what was most likely was a pickup truck, struck a stone wall and some curbside residential mailboxes along the eastbound road shoulder near 50 Berkshire Road (Route 34), damaging those structures, police said.

The unknown driver then fled the scene in the vehicle, heading eastward on Berkshire Road, police said. The vehicle most likely has heavy front-end damage.

Police are investigating the incident and ask anyone who knows the identity of the offending driver to contact Officer Liam Seabrook at the police station at 426-5841.

Load Falls Off

Todd Preszler, 44, of 14 Overlook Drive was driving a 2001 Ford F-150 pickup truck southward on South Main Street, near Wills Road, about 10:18 am October 23, when some landscaping debris fell off of the truck, damaging a 2008 BMW 535-X-ISE sedan behind the truck, police said. Jennifer Dimyan, 38, of 22 Merlin’s Lane was driving the BMW, police said.

There were no injuries. Police gave Preszler a written warning for driving with an unsecured load.

Sedan Into Curb

Motorist Douglass Randlett, 28, of 17 Indian Hill Lane was driving a 2001 Nissan Altima sedan eastward near 119 Berkshire Road about 11:21 pm October 28, when while negotiating a curve in the road, the auto went into a skid and struck some curbing along the westbound road shoulder, police report.

Randlett was not injured. Police said Randlett received a written warning for traveling too fast for conditions, according to police.

Honda Vs VW

At 4:05 pm on October 29, motorist Lindell Hertberg of Main Street was driving a 1999 Volkswagen Jetta sedan eastward on Church Hill Road in the right-turn-only lane for eastbound Interstate 84’s Exit 10 on-ramp, as motorist John Gogliettino of Danbury was driving a 2008 Honda Civic sedan westward on Church Hill Road, police said.

The Honda then attempted to make a left turn into a commercial driveway at 66 Church Hill Road, resulting in a collision with the Volkswagen, police said.

There were no injuries. Police issued Gogliettino a written warning for failure to grant the right of way.

Sandy Hook Crash

Motorist Jessica Harvath, 24, of Brighton, Mass., was driving a 1998 Subaru Forester southward on Berkshire Road, near High Rock Road, about 6:10 pm October 26, when a deer ran out onto the street and collided with the auto, police said. Harvath was not injured. Police took no enforcement.

Acura Vs Pontiac

Motorist Matthew Solicito, 25, of Stratford, who was driving a 2002 Acura TL sedan southward on Currituck Road about 7:22 am on October 29, stopped a at stop sign at Currituck Road’s intersection with Main Street, police said.

At that time, motorist Jessica Oltman, 25, of 59 Bear Hills Road was driving a 1999 Pontiac Grand Am sedan northward on Main Street, police said.

The Acura then entered Main Street, resulting in a collision with the Pontiac, police said. There were no injuries. Police said they verbally warned Solicito for failure to obey a stop sign.

DUI Incident

Police report that at about 11:30 pm on October 30, motorist Christopher Paquin, 45, of 5 Nutmeg Lane was driving a 2008 Ford pickup truck eastward on Berkshire Road, near Chestnut Hill Road, when the truck went off the street and traveled between two trees. Paquin was not injured, police said.

After investigating, police charged Paquin with driving under the influence and with making a restricted turn. Police released him on $100 bail for a November 17 court appearance.

Highway Collision

Motorist Richard West, 27, of Danbury was driving a 2004 Mazda 6 on westbound Interstate 84, near Exit 9, about 12:50 am October 29, when he swerved to avoid hitting a deer, but instead collided with some guardrailing along the right road shoulder, state police said.

West was not injured. State police took no enforcement.

I-84 Rollover

About 9:13 pm October 27, motorist David Sciarra, 51, of Kent, who was driving a 2000 Jeep Grand Cherokee SUV, was entering westbound Interstate 84 at the Exit 9 on-ramp, when the vehicle skidded on the wet road and then rolled over, hitting some rock ledge along the right road shoulder, state police said.

Sciarra reported head pain, but refused hospital transport, state police said. State police said that Sciarra was driving on unsafe tires that had metal studs in them.

 Minivan Vs Deer

About 7 am October 26, motorist Lisa Leifels, 47, of 8 Hedge Meadow Road was driving a 2000 Toyota Sienna minivan southward near 45 Main Street, when a deer ran out onto the street, police said. The Toyota and the deer collided. Leifels was not injured. Police took no enforcement.

Brushy Hill Road

Motorist Benjamin Spragg, 60, of 12 Arlyn Ridge Road was driving a 2004 Jeep Grand Cherokee SUV southward on Brushy Hill Road and proceeding through that street’s intersection with Platts Hill Road about 7:19 pm October 30, when a deer ran out onto the street and struck the side of the Jeep. Police said. The deer then ran off into the woods. Spragg was not injured. Police took no enforcement.

Lexus SUV

Police report that an unoccupied black 2007 Lexus RX-350 SUV was parked in the parking lot at Toro Restaurant at 28 Church Hill Road, when some unknown motorist sometime between 7 and 9 pm on October 31, struck the Lexus on its rear passenger side, leaving a set of scrape marks on the SUV, after which the motorist left the scene without reporting the collision. Police are investigating the incident and ask anyone with knowledge of who damaged the vehicle to contact Officer Liam Seabrook at the police station at 426-5841.
