Scores From The Soccer Pitch

Results from youth travel and recreation soccer games from this past week are as follows:

Girls

U10

Animals 4, Dynamite Desserts 2: For the Animals, Allie Reczek and Haley Harkins assisted goals by Allie Indelicato, Olivia Bellagamba and Taylor Pare in the victory. Danni Otero and Katie Elkins were a force on defense. For the Dynamite Desserts, Sydney Johnson scored off of a penalty shot, and Julia Haskins also scored a goal. Brooke Varnum kept the defense strong with Dylan Zahansky providing intensity on offense.

American Eagles 3, Wolverines 2: Natalie Young and Julia Doyle scored goals early in the second half for a tenacious American Eagles team. Olivia Hage brought the crowd to its feet when she scored the game-winning goal in the closing seconds of the game. Jillian Milano, Kaysie Fisher and Maya Neuhoff preserved the win with their determined play on defense. For the Wolverines, Sophia Andrew’s quick reflexes led to the first goal on an assist from Emily Celentano. “Rocky” Rebecca Gavel played tough, earning the second goal. Anna Steare was fierce as the second-half goalie, deflecting an onslaught of shots.

American Eagles 1, Team Six 1: For the American Eagles, Hana Rosenthal scored the tying goal on an assist from Rachel Tomasino. Lizzie Delp and Caroline Viselli led the team’s unyielding defense, and Grace Sholtes preserved the hard-fought tie by making several saves in goal.

Newtown Breeze 1, Western United 1: Rylee Mulligan scored the lone goal for the Breeze in a tough match against Western United. The defense, led by Sarah Houle, Jessica Maturo and Maggie Beardsley, kept Western United scoreless for most of the game. Savannah Mather and Cecilia Schoeni played well at both ends of the field.

Newtown Breeze 6, Ridgefield 1: Natalie Kelchner scored the hat-trick with Marcella Daily, Cassidy Kortze and Samantha Crespo each netting one goal. Mary Hufziger and Ashley Santore rounded out the offense, while the defensive effort was led by Jacklin Gouveia, Erin Tressler and Greta Staubly.

Fairfield Black 4, Heat 1: The Heat played a shorthanded game with only seven players. Kira Kelly was awesome again as goalkeeper. Alexis Mason had the only goal for the Heat. Audrey Sedensky, Eleanor Frost, Priya Deraney, Elizabeth Chamiec-Case and Catherine Shaw were workhorses and played the entire game without subs.

Heat 6, Ridgefield Orange 0: Alexis Mason had another hat-trick and Elizabeth Chamiec-Case scored a goal with an assist from Eleanor “Frosty” Frost. Lauren King and Priya Deraney each scored a goal apiece. Colleen McCarthy played well in goal.

U11

Westport 4, Newtown Rangers 0: Goalkeepers Brianna MacDonald and Stefanie Carr were the standouts in this game, deflecting repeated shots on goal. Mia Katsuleres and Ashling Sugarman fought hard to advance the ball down the field. Emily Neave played aggressive offense against a tough Westport team.

Thunder 2, Weston 1: Makenna Cerney scored both goals for the Thunder. Meghan Doyle, Amanda Wikramanayake and Camryn Cicarelli combined in goal and were assisted by a relentless team defense, led by Nevan Gattey, Caitlyn Linden and Marissa Thill. Kendra Dunnigan, Olivia Hamula, Lucy Helgren, Megan Kelleher and Madison Pirone provided a solid offensive punch.

Newtown Thunder 3, Norwalk 1: Even after a night of trick-or-treating the Thunder girls played a strong game. Strong defense provided by Nevan Gattey, Olivia Caplan, and Meaghan Kelleher helped keepers Lauren Beier and Grace Sandercox stopped Norwalk at one goal. Makenna Cerney and Lucy Helgren scored goals, assisted by Gattey, Olivia Hamula and Maddie Pirone.

U12

Newtown Comets 3, Wilton 0: The Comets kept undefeated with a strong showing. Katie Mossbarger banged in a penalty kick after a hand ball in the box. Alyssa Ruefenacht and Mossbarger shared duty in the goal and combined for six saves. Anna Biondi scored on a sharp angle after receiving a pass from Portia Baudisch. Quinn Karp found the net after a cross by Mikayla Kuligowski to an open space. Christina Debartolomeo was a force on defense, while Sarah Lyons and Julia Schoeni slowed down the attack.

Newtown Comets 1, Fairfield 0: Newtown scored the only goal of the game with a strike into the net by Anna Biondi off a feed by Casey Harkins. Emily Charash made nice saves in the goal for the shutout. Victoria Kirkman and Kim Brello played aggressively on the field. Brittany Antous and Haley Trudell stepped up their games to hold the opponent in its own zone.

U13

Tolland 5, Lightning 0 (State Cup semifinal): The U13 girls’ quest for the State Cup came to an end as they were eliminated in the semifinal round by a powerful Tolland team. Every Lightning player fought hard during a physical game. Sarah Lynch and Amy Martinelli were tireless on offense, Shelby Tolla and Kate Fallon moved the ball forward in the midfield, and Jesse Sailer played well in goal.

Lightning 1, Westport 1: Meg Korchman scored the only goal for the Lightning on a penalty kick. Andrea Rodriquez was tough in the nets, backed up with strong play on the defensive end by Korchman, Dale Shearin and Michelle Zarifis. Jesse Sailer helped keep up the offensive pressure, while Cassie Fischer and Raquel Crespo were aggressive in the midfield. 

U14

Chatterboxes 5, Just For Kicks 0: The Chatterboxes were led by Jamie Duncan with three goals and an assist. Additional offense was supplied by Sierra Mather with a goal and an assist and a goal by Hannah Grant with an assist by Danielle Mola. The team also got strong defensive play by Renee Henriques with key midfield play by Stephanie Devaney, Alex Dittrich and Marissa Liberante. For Just For Kicks, a solid game was delivered by Bailey Smith, Geralyn Klein, Kate Laaksonen, Courtney Datin, Hailey Conrad and Emily Clark.

Twisters 4, Street Lightning 1: For the Twisters, two goals scored by Kerry Scallon, with goals also scored by Isabella Saraceni and Caitlin Filiato. Strong midfield play by Sinead Flanagan, Chloe Blackman, and Mary Kate Malin and persistent defense by Tonya Tucker helped in the win. The Street Lightning goal was scored by Carly Grossano. Molly Begg and Amanda Martinez attacked constantly from midfield, while Emma Deflumeri and Bridget McDonald had good defensive performances.

Boys

U10

Newtown Strikers 5, Easton-Redding United 0: Blake Jarvis scored two goals for Newtown, while Liam McNichols, Cole Rogalin and Josh Houle each netted one. Scott Martin and Albert Dean rounded out the offense, while James Carney and Paul O’Leary anchored the defense. Zachary Laros recorded the shutout in goal.

Newtown Strikers 4, Monroe Hurricanes 2: Newtown’s Cole Rogalin and Ryan Kiss each scored a goal in the first half. Rogalin added another in the second half, and Josh Houle added the fourth. Paul O’Leary and Sean Ferris were outstanding defensively for Newtown, while John Carlson and Robby Schreiber kept the pressure on the Hurricanes at both ends of the field.

Net Rippers 6, New Canaan 0: Working on very little sleep and a sugar overload, the Net Rippers still managed a shutout against New Canaan. Brendan O’Hara had two goals, while Matt Gerbo, Josh Harper, Nick Harper and Matt Booch-Bucci all added one of their own. Adam Bergeron was on fire in goal with an impressive leap and was strong as a middie when Super Silas Decker took over goal second half. Mighty Mark Hall was lightning-fast with some fancy footwork, and Amazin’ Andy Greenwood and hot-hot-hot-Hunter Procaccini were the great wall of defense.

U11

Storm 5, Monroe 1: Newtown’s offense led by a goal from Nathan Augenbraun, Sebastian Forero, Austin Engler, Mike Meyers and Richard Ciamarra. With multiple shots on goal and deft passing the Storm dominated from the start. Newtown’s defense had an easy time shutting down the few offensive strikes put together by Monroe. Led by Jamie Cochrane and anchored by Robert Katrinak in goal, Connery Mayer, Owen Samson, Jack Riley and Forest Weatherby gave the opposing offense little to work with. 

U14

Slamming Cobras 6, Barca 1: In the final game of the season the Slammin Cobras benefited from goals by Eric VonSchleusingen (2), Jacob Moore (1), George Ferris (2) and Michael Biancardi (1). The defense was anchored by the strong play of goalie Michael Stierle and the outstanding effort of Peter Mihok, Gabe Barrett and James Wilkie. Bradley Kratz and Tommy Elliott controlled the midfield. Team Barca was led by the scoring of Miguel Rodriguez with Curtis Giles, Quinlan Hart, Kaustav Mitra controlling the midfield. James Barry had a strong game on defense.

Roma 6, Team Four 3: Tony Leonardi followed up his first half hat-trick with a goal in the second half to lead U14 Roma. For Team Four, Allister Sore scored two goals and Sam Cox scored one goal while Matt Barra played well in goal. Ryan Szalay played strong defense and Nathan Williams played a good all around game. For Roma, Zach Pollock and Cooper Buanocore both found the back of the net in the second half. Tyler Lenox played a strong game on defense, and Matt Janco had several assists in the game. Nick Klein and Daniel Colucci were both very strong in goal for Roma.

Hot Pockets 4, AC Falcons 1: The AC Falcons played a solid game and scored on a powerful shot from Mark Urso from the 18-yard line. Goalkeeper Josh Harrison played a strong game and Zachary Weiland proved to be a menace to the offense. The boys created opportunities getting to the Hot Pockets goal many times but the defense proved to be strong in preventing other goals. For the Hot Pockets, Thomas Gavel and Tim Kelly each scored with Travis Hanna scoring two goals to lead the offense. Brandon Rodriguez and Tommy Shaker played great defense and Korey Brodsky played a great overall game.
