Wendy Elizabeth (James) McCullough died at her daughter’s home in Sugarland, Texas, on November 2 at the age of 80.

Wendy is survived by two daughters, Justine and her husband, Robert Higgins, of Nashua, N.H., and Louise McCullough and her husband, John Couture, of Sugarland, Texas; five grandchildren, Geoffrey of Nashua, N.H., and Lucy, Max, Abby, and Ben of Sugarland, Texas; a sister, Kayruth (James) Bailey, of Bristol, England, U.K.; a brother, Ian James, of Lichfield, England, U.K.; many nieces, nephews, great-nephews, and cousins; and a great-niece.

She is predeceased by her husband of 49 years, Andrew Waud McCullough, whom she cared for in his later years until he passed away on September 9, 2012.

Wendy was born on May 29, 1940 in Tredegar, Wales, U.K., to the late Douglas and Gwynffryd (Wall) James. She was raised in Brynmawr, Wales, U.K., where she met and married her husband on July 27, 1963. She immigrated to the United States in 1968 with her husband and two daughters and lived in Redding, Conn. In 1974, she settled into her long-time home in Newtown, where she enjoyed many happy years of gardening, home renovations, tennis, and antique collecting. Wendy worked for many years as a real estate title searcher, drawing on her experience as a law student in the U.K. She was also interested in local history and contributed to several document archival and preservation projects in the Danbury area.

After she retired, she earned a degree in anthropology from Western Connecticut State University. Wendy was happiest living the quiet country life, reading a good book, enjoying a movie, swimming with friends, or enjoying nature and wildlife at her home.

There are no calling hours and the service is private.

Donations may be made in Wendy’s memory to the American Stroke Association or to the charity of your choice.
