Record-Setting Day For Hawk Swimmers In Championship Meet

MONROE — Newtown High School’s girls’ swimmers had quite a performance in the South-West Conference championship meet, at Masuk High, on November 6.

The Nighthawks had several team record-setting and top-two performances as the team finished third with 423 points behind winner Weston (530.50) and runner-up Pomperaug of Southbury (454).

Brianna Deierlein won the 100 yard freestyle race in 51.97 seconds and the 100 yard backstroke race with a team record-setting time of 57.76 seconds.

Deierlein was also part of the 200 medley relay team that got second place and set a team record, as well as the runner-up 400 free relay which also set a new team standard. Deierlein earned the Swimmer of the Meet award.

Grace Fischer set a team record in the 100 breaststroke event with a third-place time of 1:08.93.

The 200 medley relay team, comprising Deierlein, Cate Fischer, Grace Fischer and Alexa Kwarcinski, finished in 1:52.39.

The 400 relay of Diellza Limani, Norah Kolb, Shayna Millard, and Deierlein, finished in 3:38.21.
