Children’s Programs

*Music at the Library: On Saturday, November 8, at 2 pm, local author Ryan SanAngelou will be at the library with a musical program, sharing his delightful tale of “Spaghetti Eddie.” A huge fan of creativity and the power of imagination, Mr SanAngelou uses song writing and poetry as a way to reach young children.

*Thanksgiving Craft Program: Marie Walker will conduct a Thanksgiving craft workshop for children ages 6 and up on Saturday, November 15, from 1 to 2 pm. Participants must register in person in the children’s department, and a $3 material fee is due upon registration.

Young Adults

*Festive Stamp Art: Students in grades 6 and up are invited to join us for a Winter & Festive Stamp Art Workshop with Barbara Shohet on Thursday, November 13. The workshop will run from 4 to 6 pm. There is a $5 supply fee and space is limited to 15 participants, but everyone will learn to make a gift bag or box, greeting cards and stationery portfolio gifts for yourself. Now On View

*Travers Sculpture: James Travers, a self-taught artist who began sculpting five years ago, is currently exhibiting his work at the library. A reception will be held at the library on Sunday, November 9, from 2 to 4 pm.

*Mann’s Miniature Porcelains: Jean Mann is showing a selection of her miniature porcelains until November 24. Her art is on display on both the first and second floor of the library. On Sunday, November 16, at 2 pm, Ms Mann will be giving a talk on her work which the public is invited to attend.

*Fabric & Watercolor Works: Eleanor Loecher is presenting a collection of her fabric collages and watercolor paintings in the Olga Kopeckne Memorial Meeting Room at the library. The exhibition, which opened last weekend, will remain on view until November 29. A former Newtown resident who now lives in Heritage Village in Southbury, Mrs Loecher has had shows in Texas, New York, New Jersey, Illinois and Florida, as well as in Connecticut. Her work is in private collections as far away as Venezuela.

Adult Programs

*1854 Newtown Maps: One of the library’s beautiful historical maps of Newtown has been reproduced by the Friends of The C.H. Booth Library and can be yours for $40. The 1854 map measures 24 by 30 inches and is printed on 100% cotton rag. It features several familiar Newtown landmarks including homes, businesses, and churches.

*Book Talks: It’s always interesting to discuss a book with a group, so come join one of the library’s ongoing book groups for some great conversation and lively discussion. New members are always welcome. Groups will be discussing a variety of great books in the upcoming month including The Cherry Orchard by Anton Chekhov on Monday, Novemebr 10, at 1 pm; Hardscape by Justin Scott on Tuesday, November 18, at 7 pm; and Autobiography of A Face by Lucy Grealy on Thursday, November 21, at 7:30 pm.

*Genealogy Club: The Genealogy Club meets the second Wednesday of every month at 7 pm. Whether you’re just beginning in your search or an old pro this club is for you. The group’s next meeting will be November 12.

*A Musical History Show: Patty Carver will entertain us with a one-woman show featuring some of our favorite ladies in history including Amelia Earhart, Betsy Ross and Elizabeth Cady Stanton on Thursday, November 13, at 7 pm. This program is laced with history and loaded with music so if you enjoyed The Victorian Lady when she last visited the library this program is for you.

*Computer Classes: Dan Tannenbaum will leading an introductory computer class on Saturday, November 8, from 9 am to noon, and an intermediate class on Saturday, November 15, also from 9 am to noon. Participants need to sign up at the circulation desk for the classes and a $10 supply fee is charged for the intermediate class.
