Arranged Marriages
When it comes to finding a mate, many people in the world are on their own: They find their own spouses â or not.
Continuing longstanding traditions, however, there are cultures that use arranged marriages as the way for men and women to find their life mates.
On Sunday, November 9, at 2 pm, at C.H. Booth Library, 25 Main Street, members and guests of the Greater Newtown Chapter of Hadassah will get a glimpse into such traditions when they view Arranged, an award winning film about relationships between people of different religions.
According to the programâs speaker, chapter member Dorothy Schoengood, the movie focuses on Rachel, an orthodox Jew, and Nasira, a Syrian Muslim, both of whom teach in the same school. Besides teaching and becoming friends, the two find they have something else in common: They are going through the process of getting arranged marriages.
Ms Schoengood, known to be a good, well prepared speaker, will introduce the film and answer questions at its conclusion.
The program will take place in the libraryâs lower level meeting room. Refreshments will be served. A $5 donation would be appreciated.
For reservations, call Sybil Blau at 426-6817 or Dorothy Schoengood, 203-445-1918.
