Horse Guard’s   Annual Benefit Trail Ride

Troopers of the Second Company Governor’s Horse Guard are working hard to clear and mark the trails for the Annual Benefit Trail Ride for St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital. The event is set for Sunday, November 9 beginning at 9 am.

Trails run through Fairfield Hills and beyond. Trails are along fields and through wooded areas and there is a stream crossing. Riders will complete the 8-mile trail ride at their leisure. Riders are asked to use the St. Jude pledge sheet to raise funds from many sources. All proceeds go directly to St. Jude Hospital. This event is open to all horse owners. Riders under the age of 18 must have our release form signed by parent or guardian. All riders are asked to wear safety helmets and they must show proof of current Coggins and Rabies vaccinations for each horse. Riders will be able to park trailers on 2GHG property and 2GHG Troopers will monitor the street crossings.

Registration forms for the ride may be picked up at 2GHG, or you can have them mailed to you. For start times and other information, call 426-9046 or call SGT. Jackie Sundblade at 729-5646.

For 200 years, 2GHG has been serving the citizenry of Connecticut and is one of the oldest Cavalry Units in continuous service in the United States. 2GHG Troopers participate in ceremonial events including parades, funeral honor squads, gubernatorial inaugurals, presidential inaugural parades and other events at the order of either the Governor or the Adjutant General. Members are dedicated to preserving the history of the cavalry in the State of Connecticut. A 100 percent volunteer, non-profit organization, the 2GHG also runs a therapeutic riding program for residents of Southbury Training School, and also a small lesson program for disabled individuals.

The Troopers and mounts of the 2GHG remain, as always, “Ready to Serve”
