Norma Gray

Norma Gray, a 50-year resident of Newtown, passed away at age 94 in Charlottesville, Va., on November 1, 2019. She died peacefully in her sleep of complications from congestive heart failure.

Norma was born in 1925 in New York, daughter of Elsa Zinser and Howard Knight. She graduated from New York University and received her M.Ed. degree at a later date. She was a District Sales Manager for Avon Inc, retiring after 20 years. After her retirement, she worked for the town of Newtown as an assistant Registrar of Voters.

While living in Newtown, Norma was active in the League of Women Voters, the Professional Business Woman’s Club, and altar guild at Trinity Episcopal Church, where she was a member for 45 years. She volunteered at the Newtown library as well as the library near her home in Baltimore. She was an avid reader.

She was preceded in death by her husbands, Joseph P. Ruffier, Charles Preusser, and John Gray. She was also predeceased by her daughter, Bonnie Leigh Gray.

Norma is survived by her children, Christine Wagner (Jeffrey) of Keswick, Va., and Peter Ruffier (Lori) of Eugene, Ore.; six grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.

She enriched many lives with her joyful presence and tender heart. Norma epitomized the principles of unconditional love and respect for all. She was a kind, generous, and compassionate person much loved by her family and friends.

A Memorial Service will be held at Christ Episcopal Church in Charlottesville, Va., on November 14, 2019, at 2 pm.
