Nighthawk Runners Compete In Cross Country Championships

BETHEL — Newtown High School’s cross country teams competed in the South-West Conference championship races on a warm, early September-like afternoon at Bethel High on November 6.

The conference, as was the case during the regular season, was split into North and South divisions. The results were combined after the end of the meet, and New Milford took home first place in both the girls and boys’ competitions. Newtown’s girls’ team placed sixth in both its division and overall, and the boys were fifth in the division and seventh overall.

A course record was set by Pomperaug of Southbury’s Kate Wiser, breaking her own mark, when she finished the 5K run in a time of 17:16.78.

Newtown’s fastest finisher was Emily Tressler, who placed tenth in the North Division race in a time of 21:47.40. Next was Maddie Fetchick in 15th with a time of 22:14.97. Emily Litke and Courtney Henchcliffe were 19th and 20th with times of 22:53.89 and 22:55.71. Clara D’Amico finished 31st in 23:38.22. Alexa Norton was 37th in a time of 24:27.47. Gloria Rowley placed 43rd in 25:45.01.

Derek Bobowick was Newtown’s fastest finisher, coming in 23rd in the North Division race in 18:57.50. Aidan Budge was 24th in 18:59.46. Colden Bobowick was 27th in 19:07.06. Mitch Schrader was 32nd in 19:47.69. Andi Braholi came in 35th in 19:51.42. Chris Lindsay was 44th in 21:08.42. John Boccuzzi came in 48th in 21:44.29.
