American Legion Meet & Greet Was A Success

To the Editor:

I want to thank everyone who came out on Saturday, November 6 to the American Legion Hot Dog Meet & Greet! After almost two years of COVID, we wanted an “in-person” way of inviting new veterans and veteran family members to come and say, “Hello.” The hospitality at the Newtown Community Center and Senior Center is always warm and welcoming.

Veterans and veteran’s family members were treated to a hot dog, a soft-drink and cookies too. We had a Congressional Aide from Jahana Hayes’ office there to answer myriad questions from those who attended. I believe that everyone left having made new acquaintances and having new opportunities.

The American Legion is very much a family organization. Post 202 welcomed veterans and veteran family members to learn about the American Legion, the American Legion Auxiliary and Sons of the American Legion. If you are the spouse, son or daughter, sister or brother, mother or father, grandmother or grandfather, granddaughter or grandson, of a veteran you are eligible to join. If your veteran family member is deceased, we still honor their service and welcome you as their relative.

Most especially, I want to thank all who participated, especially the new residents who are considering joining the American Legion Family. We have many upcoming events and activities with our schools and community. Much fun and comradery will be had by all. If you did not attend on Saturday and are interested in joining, the American Legion meets the first Wednesday of each month, 7 pm, at the Newtown Community Center. Our next meeting is Wednesday, December 1.
