Nighthawk Swimmers And Divers Compete In Class L Championships

Newtown High School’s girls’ swimming and diving team competed in the Class L State Championships in mid November. The diving competition was held November 9 in Middletown and the swim events took place November 15 at Cornerstone Aquatics Center in West Hartford. The Nighthawks finished ninth with 269.5 points.

In diving, Ella Hall was 12th with a score of 312.60, Kaitlin Yeaton 23rd with a 250.55, and Kayleigh Troy 25th with a 174.15.

The 200 yard medley relay team of Ella Seaver, Grace Fischer, Zoe Petertonjes, and Alexa Kwarcinski was eighth in a time of 1:54.61.

Diellza Limani was 15th in the 200 freestyle race in a time of 2:04.39 and Lauren Smiley came in 24th in the freestyle event in 2:11.38. The Nighthawks had a trio of competitors in the 50 free; Kwarcinski was 13th in 25.75, Petertonjes 15th in 25.79, and Seaver 23rd in 26.93.

Petertonjes finished 13th in the 100 butterfly, clocking in at 1:00.72. Limani placed 16th in the 100 free with a time of 57.64. In the 500, Anna Shew came in 21st, making her final touch in 5:46.77.

Newtown’s 200 free relay of Limani, Shew, Petertonjes, and Kwarcinski was sixth in 1:43.90.

In the 100 backstroke race, Seaver came in 22nd in 1:05.36. The Hawks had three swimmers in the 100 breaststroke event: Fischer and Kwarcinski gave them a five-six finish with times of 1:08.73 and 1:08.87 — just off Fischer’s team record time of 1:08.09. Shew placed 15th in the event with a 1:13.94.

The 400 free relay, comprising Smiley, Maddy Watson, Seaver, and Limani, was 11th in 3:54.79.
