Two More Records Set As Hawk Swimmers Race And Dive In State Open

Newtown High School’s girls’ swimming and diving team capped off a successful season with strong results, including a pair of school records, in the State Open. The diving competition took place in Middletown on November 16 with the swim events at Yale University in New Haven on November 19.

Greenwich won the competition with 633 points. Newtown was eighth with 184. There were 46 teams from across the state to score in the Open.

Diver Ella Hall placed fourth with a score of 396.20.

Newtown’s 200 yard medley relay team placed sixth in a team record-setting time of 1:50.99; the Nighthawk relay comprised Ella Seaver, Grace Fischer, Zoe Petertonjes, and Alexa Kwarcinski.

Kwarcinski broke her own NHS mark in the 100 yard breaststroke, finishing eighth in 1:06.43. Fischer was 14th in the breaststroke race in 1:08.76.

In the 200 freestyle race, Petertonjes was 12th in a time of 1:57.32. Petertonjes also logged an 11th-place finish in the 100 butterfly event with a time of 59.75.

The 200 free relay contingent of Diellza Limani, Seaver, Petertonjes, and Kwarcinski took sixth in 1:40.77.

Newtown’s 400 free relay comprising Lauren Smiley, Anna Shew, Lilian Accettella, and Limani, came in 24th in 3:47.77.
