DUI Arrest

Police report they observed an erratically driven motor vehicle about 7:33 pm on November 19, so they stopped the driver at westbound Interstate 84 to investigate.

Police then charged motorist Angel Rodriguez, 68, of Danbury, with driving under the influence. Following arrest processing, Rodriguez was released for a December 3 court appearance to answer the charge.

I-84 DUI

State police report that they received information about 2:56 am on November 18 concerning a motorist who was driving erratically in a construction zone on eastbound Interstate 84, near Exit 9, so they went to the area to investigate.

State police said they found the vehicle in question and then stopped it to investigate, after which they charged motorist Daniel Jara Nugra, 28, of Danbury, with driving under the influence and driving without a license. After processing, Nugra was released on $500 nonsurety bail for a December 3 arraignment in Connecticut Superior Court in Danbury.

DUI/Reckless

State police report that at about 8:58 pm on November 16, they were conducting speed enforcement on westbound Interstate 84 in an area with a posted 55-mph speed limit.

Using a laser-based speed detector, state police spotted motorist Brittany Gonzalez, 22, of Newtown, driving 98 miles per hour in the 55 mph zone. State police stopped her to investigate and charged her with driving under the influence and with reckless driving. After processing, Gonzalez was released on $500 nonsurety bail for a December 3 court appearance.

Truck Vs Guardrail

At about 8:38 am on November 15, Christopher Kunda, 49, of Plainville, was driving a 2016 Ford Transit truck on westbound Interstate 84, when he veered to the right and struck some guardrailing, state police said.

There were no injuries. State police issued Kinda an infraction for failure to maintain the travel lane.

Truck Vs Car

State police report that at about 10:54 am on November 15, trucker Bobby Stratton, 44, of Oxford, Penn., who was driving a 2000 Kenworth truck on westbound Interstate 84, near Exit 10, struck the rear end of a 2015 Honda Accord auto driven by Rena Cherry, 75, of Oxford, Conn.

The Newtown Volunteer Ambulance Corps transported Cherry to Danbury Hospital to be treated for minor injuries. Stratton received an infraction for following too closely.

Three Vehicles

A three-vehicle accident occurred on Berkshire Road at its intersection with Toddy Hill Road about 2:04 pm on November 15.

In that incident, a 2018 Hyundai Santa Fe SUV driven by Brendan O’Neill, 16, of Sandy Hook, struck the rear end of a 2011 Subaru Forester station wagon driven by DaSilva Costa, 32, of Naugatuck, pushing the Subaru into the rear end of a 2019 Mini Cooper driven by Carole Bishop, 55, of Sandy Hook, police said.

Costa received a possible injury. O’Neill received an infraction for following too closely.

Botsford Accident

A two-vehicle accident occurred at the intersection of South Main Street and the driveway for Plaza South in Botsford at about 5:09 pm on November 15.

In that incident, motorist Autumn Ishlar, 29, of Chicopee, Mass., who was driving a 2008 Nissan Altima auto, attempted to exit the plaza and make a left turn onto northbound South Main Street, as motorist Alfred Musaka, 52, of Newtown, was driving a 2011 Dodge Ram pickup truck southward on South Main Street, police said. The two vehicles collided.

There were no injuries. Police gave Ishlar an infraction for failure to grant the right of way.

Pickup Truck Crash

State police said motorist Tre Allyn Shifflet, 26, of Torrington, was driving a 2016 Dodge Ram pickup truck on the Exit 10 on-ramp for eastbound Interstate 84 at about 5:36 pm on November 15, when Shifflet lost control of the vehicle while trying to enter the mainline of the highway, resulting in a collision that damaged the left-front corner of the truck.

There were no injuries. State police verbally warned Shifflet for failure to maintain the travel lane.

Pebble Road

Police report that motorist Joseph Martucci, 57, of Easton, was driving a 2006 Lexus RX-330 SUV southward on Pebble Road about 6:08 pm on November 15, when the Lexus struck a parked unoccupied 2012 Honda Civic and then struck a parked unoccupied 2018 Kia Stinger. There were no injuries.

Police issued Martucci a misdemeanor summons for improper passing and for driving with a suspended license. Police said they verbally warned the drivers of the Honda and Kia for improper parking.

Multiple Impacts

At about 10:30 am on November 14, motorist Christopher Robinson, 40, of Newtown, who was driving a 2012 Toyota Tundra pickup truck, entered eastbound Riverside Road from its intersection with Washington Avenue, Church Hill Road, and Glen Road, police said.

The truck then struck a curb and traveled onto a sidewalk, after which it hit a utility pole. The truck continued eastward and then entered a ditch near 14 Riverside Road, after which it struck some trees. There were no injuries. Police verbally warned Robinson for failure to maintain the lane.

Hawleyville Collision

Police report a two-vehicle accident on Mt Pleasant Road, near its intersection with Violet Road, about 5:35 pm on November 13.

In that incident, motorist Haki Abazi, 44, of Newtown, was driving a 2009 Audi A-4 auto westward, as motorist Myrlande Georgeslouis-Dort, 33, of Bridgeport, was driving a 2013 Nissan Rogue SUV eastward.

The Audi then attempted to turn left to enter 143 Mt Pleasant Road and cut in front of the approaching Nissan, resulting in the two vehicles colliding. There were no injuries. Abazi received a written warning for failure to grant the right of way.

Chevy Vs Toyota

At about 7:12 pm of November 7, motorist Hubert Muizulis, 84, of Monroe, who was driving a 2011 Chevrolet Cruze auto southward on South Main Street, struck the rear end of a southbound 2008 Toyota Camry sedan driven by David Yangra, 28, of Bridgeport, which was preparing to make a left turn onto Prospect Drive, police said.

The Newtown Volunteer Ambulance Corps transported Yangra to Danbury Hospital for possible injuries. Police verbally warned Muizulis for following too closely.
