Passing On The Right

Newtown Police report Bridgette Sorenson, 58, of Newtown, operating a 2021 Jeep Wrangler, was traveling westbound on Mile Hill Road at 9:16 pm November 8. She was traveling behind a 2016 Nissan Rogue operated by Cassie Cauwels, 22, of Newtown, who was attempting to make a right turn into the rear driveway of 49 South Main Street from Mile Hill Road. Police say Cauwels’ vehicle was sideswiped by Sorensen’s vehicle as it attempted to pass on the right as the road began to widen.

No injuries were reported.

Sorensen was given a verbal warning for improper passing on the right.

Hit By Dirt Bike

Newtown Police report a green Kawasaki dirt bike with an unknown operator was traveling southbound on Botsford Hill Road and stopped at the traffic signal at the intersection with South Main Street at 1:25 pm November 12. Brian Farrell, 67, of Southbury, operating a 2017 BMW 230xi, was traveling southbound on Botsford Hill Road and stopped behind the dirt bike. Both vehicles turned left onto South Main Street and the dirt bike pulled off the shoulder of the southbound travel lane. Police say Farrell continued to travel southbound on South Main Street past the dirt bike and the dirt bike attempted to turn left from an improper lane. The front end of the dirt bike made contact with the right front corner of Farrell’s vehicle. The dirt bike dropped to the ground, and the dirt bike operator told Farrell he was not injured. The dirt bike operator left after telling Farrell he would be contacted. Farrell took photos of the dirt bike and its operator leaving.

The incident is still under investigation.

Rear-Ended At Stop Sign

Newtown Police report Tameka Bennett-Cooper, 46, of Newtown, operating a 2011 Infiniti G37, was traveling east on Glover Avenue. She was traveling behind a 2015 Chevrolet Equinox operated by Mary Albert, 64, of Sandy Hook. Albert stopped for the stop sign at the intersection of Queen Street. Bennett-Cooper did not stop in time, and the front of her vehicle made contact with the back of Albert’s vehicle.

No injuries were reported. Neither vehicle was towed.

Bennett-Cooper was given a verbal warning for failure to drive a reasonable distance apart.

Damaged By Unknown Vehicle

Newtown Police report a 2018 Jeep Renegade owned by Diane Davison of Danbury was parked and unoccupied in the parking lot of the Newtown Community Center at 12:55 pm November 16. Davison came out to her vehicle after two hours and found damage to the left rear corner by an unknown vehicle.

No camera footage was found for the incident.

Run Off Road By Passing Car

Newtown Police report that Sean Gaynor, 20, of Monroe, operating a 2013 Ford F350 Superbody owned by Brian and Bryan Construction Company of Redding, was traveling southbound on Eden Hill Road approaching Towns End Road at 2:49 pm November 16. An unknown vehicle was following Gaynor and attempted to pass. Police say Gaynor drove off the right side of the road, colliding with a stone wall and then a guide wire support for a CL&P utility pole. The only description Gaynor gave of the other vehicle is a black sedan.

No injuries were reported. Gaynor’s vehicle was towed.

Improper Turn

Newtown Police report Olnick Exavier, 39, of Jacksonville, Fla., was turning left onto Commerce Road from Church Hill Road at 12:23 pm November 17. Sandra Morici, 76, of Newtown, operating a 2011 Toyota Camry, was stopped for a traffic light in the left turn lane of Commerce Road near the intersection of Church Hill Road. The rear tire of Exavier’s vehicle collided with the left rear tire and bumper cover of Morici’s vehicle.

No injuries were reported. Neither vehicle was towed.

Exavier was issued a verbal warning for making an improper turn.

Jeep Hits Lamborghini

Newtown Police report Timothy Silva, 24, of Fairfield, operating a 2014 Jeep Compass, was traveling northbound on Glen Road at 6:37 pm November 19. Kenneth Bogursky, 48, of Sandy Hook, operating a 2008 Lamborghini Gallardo, was stopped for traffic in the northbound lane of Glen Road. Silva’s vehicle struck Bogursky’s vehicle, front to back.

No injuries were reported. Both vehicles were towed from the scene.

Silva received an infraction for failure to drive a reasonable distance apart and a verbal warning for illegal window tinting.
