Passing On Right

Newtown police report Elizabeth Teixeira, 18, of Sandy Hook, operating a 2018 Chevrolet Cruze LS, was traveling northbound on Mount Pleasant Road behind a 2015 Honda Civic LX operated by Christian Pulia-Vazquez, 26, of Danbury at 2:26 pm November 11.

Teixeira said she thought Pulia-Vazquez had signaled to make a left turn, and appeared to be getting ready to make a left turn. Teixeira said she then began to pass Pulia-Vazquez’s vehicle on the right. Pulia-Vazquez then made a right turn towards The Old Road and the driver’s side of Teixeira’s vehicle struck the passenger’s side of Pulia-Vazquez’s vehicle.

Pulia-Vazquez told police as he approached The Old Road he signaled to make a right turn. As he was making the turn, the passenger side of his vehicle was struck by the driver’s side of Teixeira’s vehicle.

Both vehicles sustained damage. No injuries were reported.

Teixeira was issued an infraction for passing on the right.

Failed To Avoid Collision

Newtown Police report Wilma Carreiro-Napoleao, 56, of Danbury, operating a 2005 Subaru Legacy 2.5i AWD, was traveling southbound on Main Street at 7:27 am November 12. Jason Emery, 39, of Poughquag, NY, operating a 2017 Subaru Impreza, was traveling southbound on Main Street, slowing in the roadway to make a right turn to park in front of 43 South Main Street.

Carreiro-Napoleao’s vehicle drove to the right side of the roadway attempting to avoid hitting the rear of Emery’s vehicle. The left side mirror of Carreiro-Napoleao’s vehicle collided with the right side mirror of Emery’s vehicle.

No injuries were reported.

Carreiro-Napoleao was issued a verbal warning for passing on the right.

Did Not See Stopped Vehicle

Newtown Police report Thomas D’Agostino, 67, of Sandy Hook, operating a 2012 Honda Ridgeline, was backing out of a parking space in the parking area of 41 Main Street at 11:17 am November 12. Terry Jackson, 51, of Newtown, operating a 2021 Kia Stinger GLT, was stopped behind D’Agostino’s vehicle.

D’Agostino said that while he was backing out of the parking space he did not observe Jackson’s vehicle. The rear of his vehicle struck the rear passenger side of Jackson’s vehicle.

Both vehicles received minor damage.

No injuries were reported.

Dog Hit

Newtown Police report Kaoutar Semmah, 44, of Trumbull, operating a 2012 Nissan Altima SR, was traveling southbound on South Main Street at 3:35 pm November 15. His vehicle struck a dog that ran into the road from 216 South Main Street.

Semmah reported no injuries. The dog died due to injuries.

Struck Mailbox

Newtown Police report Mason Lautier, 18, of New Preston, was traveling northbound on Hanover Road at 11:41 am November 16.

Lautier’s vehicle drifted off the roadway, striking the guard rail and striking a mailbox.

No injuries were reported.

No enforcement was issued.

Mirrors Made Contact

Newtown Police report Elena Gotch, 17, of Sandy Hook, operating a 2018 Hyundai TCN, was traveling northbound in the private parking lot at 75 Church Hill Road, at 9:37 am November 18. Kaelin Rising, 16, of Sandy Hook, operating a 2019 Toyota Rav4 XLE, was traveling southbound in the same parking lot.

The driver’s side mirrors of both vehicles made contact. No visible damage from the contact was observed.

No injuries were reported.

South Main Collision

Newtown Police report Paul O’Leary, 23, of Sandy Hook, operating a 2017 Jaguar F-Type R, was exiting the parking lot of 99 South Main Street at 2:22 pm November 18. Borana Leska, 31, of Wilton, was also exiting the parking lot.

O’Leary’s passenger side front bumper struck the driver side wheel well of Leska’s vehicle. Police say Leska had right-of-way.

No injuries were reported at the scene.

No enforcement action was taken.

Police Seek To Return Lost Bag

Newtown Police report that on November 18, a camouflage bag containing women’s shoes, undergarments and a diaper changing pad was turned over to the Newtown Police Department as found property. The bag was found in the area of 6 Twist Hill Road.

The owner is asked to contact the Newtown Police Department at 203-426-5841 to retrieve their property.

Ran Off Road On Curve

Newtown Police report Brittany Agachinski, 25, of Newtown, operating a 2000 Nissan Altima X, was traveling westbound on Berkshire Road at 5:03 am November 19.

Agachinski’s vehicle was negotiating a curve when it crossed the double yellow lines, entered the eastbound lane and struck a metal guardrail located off the roadway and shoulder of the eastbound lane.

Agachinski’s vehicle sustained damage to the front bumper and front left wheel, and was towed from the scene by Hilarios.

No injuries were reported.

Rear-Ended On Main Street

Newtown Police report Jaydan Marschall, 17, of Danbury, operating a 2016 Dodge Charger R/T, was traveling northbound on Main Street at 10:48 am November 19. William Salazar-Guzman, 36, of Danbury, operating a 2009 Honda CR-V EX-L, was traveling northbound on Main Street ahead of Marschall.

Salazar-Guzman’s vehicle came to a stop, waiting to make a left turn into a parking space in front of Edmond Town Hall, when the left front section of Marschall’s vehicle made contact with the right rear section of Salazar-Guzman’s vehicle.

No injuries were reported. Marschall was issued a written warning for traveling an unreasonable distance apart. Salazar-Guzman was issued a written warning for operating a motor vehicle without a license.

Arrested For Disorderly Conduct

Newtown Police report Denis Demiri, 32, of Bethel, was arrested at 9:30 am November 20 on the charge of disorderly conduct. He was released on a promise to appear with a court date of November 22.

Multiple Charges

Newtown Police report Matus Sunik, 40, of Ansonia, was arrested at 7:05 am November 21 on the charges of reckless driving, illegal operation of a motor vehicle under the operation of alcohol or drugs, making an improper turn or stop with no signal, and operating a motorcycle without an endorsement. He was released on a promise to appear with a court date of December 7.

Failure To Obey Stop Sign

Newtown Police report Kimani Brown, 28, of Fairfield, operating a 2002 Honda Civic EX, was stopped at the stop sign on Swamp Road at South Main Street at 8:58 am November 22. Stephen Buchanan, 33, of Stratford, operating a 2020 Mack Granite, was traveling southbound on South Main Street.

Brown attempted to turn left onto South Main Street, turning in front of Buchanan’s vehicle. Buchanan’s vehicle’s front bumper struck the right side of Brown’s vehicle.

Brown sustained minor lacerations to the right side of his face, and reported pain in his right leg. He was treated at the scene by responding Monroe EMS.

Brown was issued a written warning for failure to obey a stop sign.

Collision In Cul-De-Sac

Newtown Police report John Falenza, 44, of Rocky Hill, operating a 2022 Freightliner M2 106 Medium Duty, was backing up to turn around in the cul-de-sac of Deer Hill Drive at 1:02 pm November 22. A 2018 GMC Savana Cutaway G35C owned by Rick’s Plumbing Service was parked in the cul-de-sac.

The rear passenger side bumper area of Falenza’s vehicle made contact with the front driver’s side corner of the GMC.

No injuries were reported.

No enforcement action was taken.
