NHS Boys' Golfers Aim For Another SWC Title ... And More
The Newtown High School boys' golf team enters into the 2026 season as the three-time defending South-West Conference Champions and has its sights set on a fourth straight title. While another conference championship is a major goal, the Nighthawks also believe they have the talent to compete for state bragging rights.
Newtown returns five experienced golfers from last year's championship squad, led by captains Will Lokey, Jack Wishneski, and Nate Pickard. Also returning are Aiden Andreotta and Henry Laughlin, giving the team one of the strongest and most experienced lineups in the state.
Despite the program's recent success, this year's squad has the potential to be the best in Newtown history, Coach Shawn Tierney believes. The team combines exceptional talent, experience, and depth, and believes it can compete with anyone in Connecticut.
The Nighthawks open their season on Wednesday, August 19, with a visit to Joel Barlow at Redding Country Club at 3 pm. After visiting Weston at Aspetuck Country Club the next day at 3:15 pm, the Hawks will have their home opener Wednesday, August 26 when Immaculate of Danbury visits Rock Ridge Country Club at 3 pm. The players and coach are excited to get the season underway and begin the pursuit of another memorable year.
