Matt Taylor (Franciscan University of Stuebenville men’s soccer) – Was named MVP for the 2006 fall season. Taylor – known as a tough defensive player with Newtown High School – started as defensive back for the Barons, but was soon moved up to midfield by head coach Dr Patrick Doering. The Barons finished 7-6-1.

Tim Lux (Middlebury College swimming & diving) – Lux, a co-captain, just opened his fourth season with the Middlebury College swimming & diving team at the annual Middlebury College relay invitational on November 18. In the 200 medley relay, he was the second leg of an ‘A’ team that finished first. In the 400 breaststroke relay, he led off an ‘A’ team that also finished first (by 12 seconds over Keene State). In the 4x200 individual medley relay, Lux anchored an ‘A’ team that finished first (by more than 30 seconds over Keene State). And in the 200 freestyle relay, Lux was the second leg of a ‘B’ team which first third. Lux currently owns the school records in the 50 breaststroke (26.52, set in 2005), 100 breaststroke (57.66, set in 2005) and 200 breaststroke (2:07.02, set in 2004).

Abby Atkinson (Bucknell University swimming and diving) – The Lady Bisons finished second to Towson State (out of five teams) at the Bucknell Invitational November 18-19. Atkinson was fifth in the 200 individual medley at 2:12.74, led off a 400 medley relay ‘B’ team which took fourth at 4:04.81, led off a 200 medley relay ‘B’ team which finished sixth at 1:54.64, was fifth in the 200 backstroke at 2:11.71, and led off a 400 freestyle relay ‘B’ team which finished sixth at 3:41.68.

Catherine Maher (Trinity College women’s basketball) – The Lady Bantams opened the season with a 68-54 loss to St. Lawrence University in the Brandeis Tip-Off Tournament on November 18 but rebounded with a 67-48 win over Regis College in the consolation match. In the two games, Maher scored 18 points (averaging 28.5 minutes per contest) with four three-pointers. She also added three rebounds and five assists.

Marcus Tracy (Wake Forest men’s soccer) – As reported on wakeforestsports.cstv.com, the second-seeded Wake Forest University men’s soccer team is headed to St. Louis for the 2006 Men’s College Cup after taking down tenth-seeded Santa Clara, 3-1. Wake will play the winner of the UC Santa Barbara/Northwestern match on Friday, December 1, at Robert R. Hermann Stadium in St. Louis, Missouri, for the right to play in the national championship game on December 3.

CJ Maurer (St. Bonaventure swimming & diving) – The Bonnies captured their first win with a 124-119 decision over La Salle on November 11. Maurer, a 2004 graduate of Newtown High School, was one of the Bonnie’s top divers last year, one of four who placed in the top eight in both diving events at the Atlantic 10 championships. He earned a fourth-placed finish on the three-meter and his 463.25 score was a team-best for the season.

Tierney Carey (St. Michael’s College swimming & diving) – Was the anchor of a diver relay which finished second to Middlebury College at the annual Middlebury College Relay Invitational.
