Waldemar D. Purat

WWII Army Veteran

Waldemar D. Purat, 84, of Hazleton, Penn., beloved husband of the late Pauline E. (Tokash) Purat, died November 20 at his home. Mr Purat was born in Bridgeport on January 8, 1922, to Ewald and Selma (Wendland) Purat.

Survivors include his beloved son, Robert D. Purat and his wife, Gail, of Newtown; and one cherished grandson, Robert John Purat. He was predeceased by a brother, Reinholt Purat, and a sister, Emily Stone.

Prior to his retirement he had been employed as a truck driver for Marvin Brothers Express, Emery Air Freight, and Consolidated Freight. He was of the Lutheran faith, a member of the Hazleton Benevolent and Protective Order of Elks, the AARP, and the Freeland VFW Post 5010. He served with pride, honor, and distinction in the US Army during World War II, serving in the Asiatic Pacific Theater of Operations with the 3343rd Signal Message Center. He was awarded the Asiatic Pacific Theater campaign ribbon, good conduct, and victory medal.

A funeral service took place on November 27 in The Spadaccino Community Funeral Home, Monroe. Interment followed in Newtown Village Cemetery.
