Newtown Youth & Family Services (NYFS) is joining together with the Town of Newtown, the school district, the interfaith community and municipal organizations in observance of the second anniversary of 12/14.

On November 4, First Selectman Pat Llodra and Superintendent of Schools Dr Joseph Erardi issued a joint statement that said in part: “This second anniversary, like the first one last year, will be recognized in personal reflection and remembrance.”

In response, NYFS will be open on Sunday, December 14, from 10 am to 2 pm, for walk-in support services for individuals and families in the community who have been impacted by the Sandy Hook tragedy. The organization’s headquarters are at 15 Berkshire Road in Sandy Hook.

NYFS Executive Director Candice Bohr reminds residents that NYFS “strives to respond to needs of the community on an ongoing basis.

“We are constantly working to assess the types of supports and programming that is desired,” she added.

For the past two years, NYFS has been providing its walk-in support services to the community. These services are for both individuals and families to express their personal concerns and feelings related to the tragedy, meet with a staff therapist who can address these concerns, answer questions, and provide referrals for ongoing services if needed.

While no appointment is necessary, with walk-ins welcome during set times, community members are encouraged to call ahead if they wish to be seen at a specific time.
