Bethel Library To Host Local Poet & Peace Activist

BETHEL — Bethel poet Gerard Brooker will read from and sign copies of his latest collection of poetry, Even Whispers Can Be Heard, at Bethel Public Library’s temporary location at 137 Greenwood Avenue. The program will be on Sunday, December 5, at 2 pm.

The author has generously offered all the proceeds of book sales to the library’s capital campaign to help complete the new building.  The event will take place in the alcove of the library’s temporary location at 137 Greenwood Avenue. 

Mr Brooker served as chairman of the English department at Staples High School in Westport and has published over 280 articles and poems, mostly about social issues.

He is an international peace activist, and initiated student peace conferences in the former Soviet Union, Japan, China, and Vietnam.

Mr Brooker received the Mahatma Gandhi-Martin Luther King Jr. Peace Award from Connecticut Education Association and The Jefferson Award of the American Institute for Public Service.

He has additionally has been inducted into the National Teachers Hall of Fame.
