Emily Ashbolt

Begins Bee Internship

Newtown High School junior Emily Ashbolt started interning for The Newtown Bee this week, and her first article, “Two Newtown Programs Recognized For Staying On The Ball And Climbing The Tree Of Fitness,” is in this week’s edition.

As a junior, Emily expects to study physics in college, but hopes to focus on writing as a minor.

“I’ve always loved writing,” said Emily, after filing her first Newtown Bee story, “ever since I was little. And I just thought any opportunity to do that for a credit would be great.”

Emily has lived in Newtown since she was 3 years old, when her family — mother Fran Ashbolt, father Mark Ashbolt, and older brother Stephen Ashbolt — moved to the area from England.

Emily also serves as a staff member of The Hawkeye, NHS’s student newspaper.

As the recent team mentor for the C.H. Booth Library’s Creative Writing Poetry Group, Emily said she loves all writing, and enjoys journalism because she likes talking to and meeting new people.
