It’s Beginning To Look A Lot Like … The Holidays

Wreaths, red ribbons, and colored lights strung from tree limbs this week gave away plans for holiday festivities throughout town from Friday evening through Sunday night. As residents dug through closets for mittens and knit hats this week, town crews unraveled holiday lights while traffic slowed in Sandy Hook Center for a better look.

The Christmas Tree Committee that overseas Ram Pasture’s tree has had its lights up since November, said committee co-chair Janet Woycik, thanks to Stan Perone, Dan Dalton, and Rob McCulloch of Newtown Tree Service.

The Ram Pasture lighting is sponsored by both the Newtown Chamber of Commerce and the Parks and Recreation Department.

Also preparations are under way for the inaugural Hawleyville Tree Lighting on Sunday, December 5, from 5 to 6 pm, in the Hawleyville Post Office Plaza, at the junction of 23 Barnabas Road and Route 25.

In Sandy Hook this week, Jeff Thomas stretched out rows of bulbs along the brick walk while Keven Belden peered down from his perch in the town’s bucket truck, eye-level with treetops overlooking the four-way intersection in Sandy Hook Center where guests will gather Saturday to count down from 10 and wait for the tree’s lights to come on.
