Miklaszewski Named Lion Of The Year

Ed Miklaszewski has been named Lion of the Year by Newtown Lions Club President Walt Schweikert.

Mr Miklaszewski has been a member of the club since 2005. He has been active with Lose the Litter Day and also with starting Orchard Hill Frisbee Golf.

He has also been the Tailtwister for the local club for the past two years. The Tailtwister is responsible for entertaining the Lions at meetings with jokes and trivia games.

In addition to honoring Mr Miklaszewski, a number of fellow Lions were also honored by the club recently.

Paul Arneth and Jim Cotter each received a Knight of the Blind Award, which is granted by the Connecticut Lions Eye Research Foundation for outstanding service to the Newtown Club and the state of Connecticut.

Walt Schweikert and Kevin Corey were each honored with Melvin Jones Fellowship Awards. The award was named for the founder of Lions Club International. It is the highest form of recognition conferred by the Lions Club International Foundation.

Gordon Williams received the Progressive Melvin Jones Fellowship Award.

Frank DeLucia and Fred Stakel both received The Loyal Shepherd Fellow Award, which is granted by the FIDELCO Guide Dog Foundation to recognize individuals who have provided extraordinary service to the community.

Ray Keegan and John Kopins both received the Ambassador of Sight Award, an honor is conferred by the Lions Low Vision Center of Connecticut, which teaches the visually impaired new ways to utilize remaining eyesight.
