Newtown’s First Turkey Trot

A Success

To the Editor:

On behalf of Mike Beaudry, Mike Hornby, and myself we’d like to say, wow, we were blown away by the turnout on Thanksgiving morning!

When we envisioned the road race a year ago we hoped to have 500 runners and walkers participate in the event. At the end of the day we had 737 runners compete and some 150 walkers participate in the Newtown Turkey Trot.

The event would not have happened without the support of our many sponsors including our Title and Platinum sponsor, Newtown Savings Bank;, our Gold level sponsors, The Newtown Bee and the C.H. Booth Library Board of Trustees; our Silver level sponsors, Stratton Faxon, BMW of Watertown, and Union Savings Bank; and our Bronze level sponsors, Newtown Chiropractic Health Center, Woodbridge Running Co., and Dental Associates of Connecticut.

We’d also like to highlight the many Patrons of the Library supporters that provided monetary or in-kind contributions, including Excel Tutoring, Joshua Baum, DMD, Poland Springs Water, Bagel Delight, Starbucks, Caraluzzi’s Market, Newtown Center Pediatrics, Stop & Shop, Andrea’s Bakery, Dunkin’ Donuts, Savings Bank of Danbury, Rand Whitney Container Newtown, United Rental, Big Y, Shop Rite, Nina’s Nail Spa, Newtown Deli & Catering, and Villarina’s.

We’d like to thank our volunteers who spent many hours planning the event and executing it on race day. You were the real stars for showing up in the cold weather at 5:30 am on turkey day!
