Social Services Department Conducts Holiday Toy Drive

The Newtown Social Services Department is conducting a holiday season toy drive for needy children that is slated to run until December 21.

It marks the first time that the department has held such a toy drive.

The department is seeking donations of new, unwrapped toys for children ranging in age from 2 to 16.

Toys to be collected in the drive will be distributed to the children of the department’s local clients who might otherwise not receive gifts of toys from other holiday toy drives. If any toys are left over after the holidays, those toys would be provided as gifts for children’s birthdays.

An estimated 30 local families have children who would benefit from such a toy drive, according to the department.

People who are interested in donating toys may drop them off at the Social Services Department from 8 am to 4:30 pm on Mondays through Fridays. The department is located on the lower level of Town Hall South at 3 Main Street. The telephone number is 203-270-4330.
