DUI Arrest

Police report they received a call about 5:32 pm on November 28 reporting that a black Lexus GS-350 sedan with a specified marker plate was being driven erratically on South Main Street in Botsford, so police then sought and found the vehicle in question, stopping it on Queen Street at Mile Hill Road.

Police said they investigated and then charged motorist Henry N. Gellert, 68, of 28 Grand Place with driving under the influence and with failure to drive to the right.

After arrest processing, police released Gellert on $1,000 nonsurety bail for a December 15 arraignment on the charges in Danbury Superior Court.

Interstate DUI

State police report that while on patrol on Interstate 84, they spotted a vehicle that was parked partially on the right road shoulder and partially on the right travel lane at about 2:30 am on November 20, so they stopped to investigate.

After rousing motorist Allan Gama, 33, of Waterbury, who had been asleep inside the vehicle, state police said they investigated and also found alcohol in the vehicle. 

Gama was arrested on charges of driving under the influence and improper parking, state police said.

Gama was released on $1,000 nonsurety bail for a December 2 court appearance.

Chrysler Vs Hyundai

At about 3:33 pm on November 29, motorist Martin Beinison, 62, of Danbury, who was driving a 1998 Chrysler Concorde sedan westward on Interstate 84, about 500 feet east of the Exit 10 interchange, struck a 2005 Hyundai Tucson SUV driven by Aliyah Baruchin, 53, of Maplewood, N.J., state police said.

There were no injuries. Beinison received an infraction for failure to maintain the proper lane, state police said.

Exit 10 Crash

State police said motorist Marissa Thill, 17, of 50 Cobblers Mill Road, who was driving a 2001 Acura MDX SUV on the Exit 10 on-ramp for eastbound Interstate 84 at about 4:52 pm on November 28, lost control of the vehicle, fishtailed, and then struck some flex-beam guardrailing.

There were no injuries. State police said Thill failed to maintain the travel lane.

Highway Ramp

Motorist Brock Chimileski, 20, of 22 Walnut Tree Hill Road, who was driving a 1999 BMW 323-I on the Exit 10 on-ramp for eastbound Interstate 84 on November 28, lost control of the vehicle and then struck some guardcabling, state police said.

There were no injuries. Enforcement information was not available.

DUI Incident

Police report that while in patrol at about 12:20 am on November 28, they stopped motorist Samantha Phillips, 21, of 5 Erin Lane for traveling fast on Church Hill Road.

After investigating, police charged Phillips with driving under the influence and with traveling too fast. Following processing, police released Phillips on $100 bail for a December 10 court appearance.

Warrant Served

Police report that at about 9:18 pm on November 22, they served a warrant against James Brown, 18, of 34 Meadowbrook Road at that address, charging Brown with second-degree failure to appear in court.

The warrant stems from an original charge of disorderly conduct that was lodged against Brown in connection with a June incident, police said. Police said they held Brown on $500 bail for a November 23 arraignment in Danbury Superior Court.

Brown did not plead to the charge at his arraignment. He was released on a written promise to appear in court on December 3.

Court Warrant

At about 7:10 pm on November 22, police said they served a warrant against Sean Morits, 41, of 6 Silver City Road at that address, charging Morits with second-degree failure to appear in court.

Police said the original arrest in March involved a motor vehicle incident in which Morits received a misdemeanor summons and several infractions. 

Morits posted $10,000 bail and was released for a December 10 appearance in Danbury Superior Court.

Three-Vehicle Collision

A three-vehicle collision occurred on northbound South Main Street, south of its intersection with Glover Avenue, about 4:48 pm on November 10, police said.

Police report that motorist Kevin O’Connell, 23, of 15 Webster Place, who was driving a 2007 Honda CR-V SUV, stopped due to heavy traffic, after which motorist Michael Meyer, 16, of 5 North Branch Road, who was driving a 1992 Cadillac Eldorado coupe, stopped behind the Honda.

Motorist Zachary Laros, 17, of 147 Taunton Hill Road, who was driving a 2008 Jeep Wrangler SUV, then struck the rear end of the Cadillac, pushing the Cadillac into the rear end of the Honda, police said.

There were no injuries. Police said Laros received an infraction for following too closely.

Hawleyville Accident

Motorist Martin Brown, 39, of Watertown was driving a vehicle westward on Mt Pleasant Road and then came to a sudden stop for traffic ahead of him, which was turning left onto Taunton Lane, at about 4:11 pm on November 28, police said.

Westbound motorist David Gommo, 48, of 17-A Bennetts Bridge Road then struck the rear end of Brown’s vehicle, according to police.

There were no injuries. Police said they verbally warned Gommo for failure to drive a reasonable distance apart.

Church Hill Crash

Police report that at about 5:15 pm on November 20, motorist Donna Gaetano, 50, of Danbury, who was driving a 2015 Subaru Forester SUV eastward near 51 Church Hill Road, struck the rear end of an eastbound 2010 Audi A-4 auto driven by Amy Scalzo, 36, of Southbury.

There were no injuries. Police said they verbally warned Gaetano for following too closely.

Car vs Tree

At about 7:45 pm on November 30, motorist Amy Zaccara, 39, of Bridgewater was driving a 2014 Hyundai Azera sedan northward on Hawleyville Road, near its intersection with Obtuse Road, when the vehicle went straight ahead, instead of following a curve in the road to the left.

The Hyundai went off the roadway, hit a tree and uprooted it, after which the auto kept moving, rolling over more than once, police report.

The Newtown Volunteer Ambulance Corps transported Zaccara to Danbury Hospital for treatment of injuries, police said. The accident is under investigation.

DUI Warrant

Police report that after learning that they held a warrant for her arrest, Alexandra Duris, 21, of 16 Osborne Hill Road Extension went to the police station on the morning of December 1, and was charged with driving under the influence and with making a restricted turn in connection with an incident that occurred on November 1, 2014.

After processing, police released Duris on $1,000 bail for arraignment on the charges on December 10 in Danbury Superior Court.

Berkshire Rear-Ender

Police report a two-vehicle accident occurred on Berkshire Road, about 240 feet east of its intersection with Bradley Lane, about 6:30 am on December 1.

In that incident, motorist Elizabeth Begnoche, 59, of Derby was driving  westward and then stopped for a school bus, after which westbound motorist Richard Boughton, 77, Clinton struck the rear end of Begnoche’s vehicle, police said.

There were no injuries. Police report they issued Boughton a written warning for following too closely.

Intersection Collision

Police said a two-vehicle collision took place on Mile Hill Road at its intersection with South Main Street about 5:11 pm on December 1.

The accident involved motorist Michael Aiello, 32, of Oxford, who was driving a 2014 GMC Acadia SUV, and motorist Brian Colwell, 25, of Seymour, who was diving a 2009 Nissan Altima auto, police said.

There were no injuries. Police report they gave Aiello an infraction for failure to grant the right of way.

Two Warrants Served

Police report they served two arrest warrants against Nathaniel Greenfield, 35, of 29 Parmalee Hill Road on November 19. Police said Greenfield was a prisoner in state Department of Correction custody at the time. Both warrants stem from criminal investigations that police conducted earlier this year.

In one case, police charged Greenfield with sixth-degree larceny.

In the other case, police charged him with sixth-degree larceny, using a motor vehicle without the owner’s permission, illegal use of a credit card, and driving a vehicle while under suspension.

Greenfield did not plead to the five charges at his arraignment. He is scheduled to return to Danbury Superior Court on January 5.

On December 2, Greenfield was incarcerated at the Corrigan-Radgowksi Correctional Center in Uncasville where he is serving a three-year sentence on a conviction on a controlling charge of possession of narcotics.

Truck Rollover

Police report that motorist Michael Burton, 55, of 20 Washington Avenue, who was driving a 2002 Ford F-350 pickup truck southward near 89 Riverside Road about 10:08 pm on November 28, while negotiating a curve in the road to the left, lost control of the truck and then drove off the right road shoulder, striking a culvert.

The truck then struck a utility pole and rolled over, landing on its wheels, police said. Newtown Volunteer Ambulance Corps transported Burton to Danbury Hospital for treatment of injuries, police said. Sandy Hook Volunteer Fire & Rescue Company firefighters responded to the accident scene.

Police said they verbally warned Burton for traveling too fast for conditions.

Castle Hill Collision

Police said motorist Alejandro Eligio Ortiz-Franco, 40, of Bridgeport was driving a 2002 GMC Envoy SUV eastward on Castle Hill Road, just west of King Street, about 3:40 pm on December 1, when a westbound vehicle encroached on his travel lane, resulting in Ortiz-Franco applying the brakes.

The GMC skidded on the wet road, spun about, and then struck an embankment, police said. There were no injuries. Police said they verbally warned him for traveling too fast for conditions.

State police report that motorist Raymond Bagley, 44, of Ansonia was driving a 2008 Pontiac Torrent SUV on westbound Interstate 84’s Exit 11 on-ramp at about 1:36 pm on November 29, when the vehicle went off the left side of the road, struck an embankment, and then rolled over. Newtown Volunteer Ambulance Corps transported Bagley to Danbury Hospital for treatment of injuries, state police said. Sandy Hook Volunteer Fire & Rescue firefighters responded to the incident. State police said they issued three vehicular violations to Bagley.
