METROPOLITAN MUSEUM WILL PRESENT ‘EUROPEAN CLOCKS, WATCHES’ DEC. 18

AVV 5-10 #699699

NEW YORK CITY — The Metropolitan Museum of Art will present “European Clocks and Watches from the Collection,” December 18–April 27.

The exhibition will draw upon the Metropolitan Museum’s extensive holdings of English, Dutch, French, German and Swiss horology, ranging in date from the Sixteenth through the Eighteenth Centuries.

Acquired primarily as decorative objects or as a specialized variety of furniture, some of these clocks and watches are equally important in illustrating technical developments in European clock making.

While a few have never been exhibited previously and many have not been seen form ore than a decade, some will be familiar from their inclusion in the galleries of European Sculpture and Decorative Arts but will be shown in a new — and sometimes surprising — context.

The Metropolitan Museum of Art is at 1000 Fifth Avenue. For information, 212-535-7710 or www.metmuseum.org.
