To the Editor:

The evening of September 28 was impressive. It was the Light the Night Fundraiser for the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society. There were games, crafts, therapy dogs, KICKS.105, WEBE 108 and the Newtown High School Cheerleaders and Baseball Team. Everyone was busy! There were about 600 walkers.

Once again, I thank all the local businesses that donated: Associated Refuse Haulers, Caraluzzi's Markets, Compass Capital Management, Newtown Savings Bank, Union Savings Bank, Quota of Candlewood Valley, Sippin Brothers Oil Co., St. Rose of Lima Church, and the Big Y Supermarket,Taunton Wine & Liquor.

GE Bright Lights Team was not only the largest team but their donations were the highest!

Special thanks to Subway in Botsford for donating the food. It was delicious!

Our goal for this year was $88,300!  Well, if you can believe it, as of today we hit $ 85,000! There are a few days left in 2013 if you want to donate call 800-955-4572 or on line at www.lightthenight.org/ct  Every dollar that is donated sees 78 cents go to patient care and research for a cure.

Here's something to think about, in 2012 Connecticut saw over 550 new cases of Leukemia that were diagnosed. Help us find a cure for the number one cancer killing disease of our boys under the age of 21. Leukemia took our son, Greg, at the age of 17 years and 3 months of age. Let's work together to find a cure.

Sincerely,

Ginny Chion and John Chion
