Apparel Missing

Police are seeking to locate a brown-and-gray Columbia-brand woman’s jacket that was reported missing from the Blue Colony Diner parking lot at 66 Church Hill Road on November 23. A woman left the item in the parking lot between 1 and 9:45 am, during which time it was removed by someone.

The jacket had cash, a cellphone, and a Connecticut driver’s license in a pocket. People with information on the matter may contact police at 426-5841.

Red Light

Police report that while they were driving eastward on Meadow Brook Road about 7:45 pm November 28, they spotted motorist Michael Montanaro, 34, of Trumbull drive a vehicle through a red traffic signal while traveling southward on South Main Street at its intersection with Meadow Brook Road.

Police stopped Montanaro on South Main Street to investigate, after which they charged him with failure to obey a traffic control signal and with driving with a suspended license.

Montanaro posted $100 bail for arraignment December 11 in Danbury Superior Court.

Radar Patrol

While using speed detection radar on Currituck Road about 6:15 pm November 28, police said they spotted motorist Patricia Bowers, 33, of Stratford driving a 2003 Honda Civic too fast, so they stopped her to investigate.

Police said they charged Bowers with traveling too fast for conditions and with driving while under suspension.

Bowers posted $100 bail for a December 11 court appearance.

DUI Arrest

Police report that at about 12:30 am on November 27, they spotted motorist Paula Whitlock, 39, of New Milford driving over the road’s center line on Berkshire Road, near Wasserman Way, so they stopped her to investigate.

Police said they gave her field sobriety tests, after which they charged her with driving under the influence and with failure to drive to the right.

Following arrest processing, police released Whitlock on $100 bail for a December 11 court appearance.

Dispute

At about noon on November 27, resident Joseph Kmoch, 49, of 25 Orchard Hill Road was involved in a dispute on Huntingtown Road, police report.

After investigating, police charged Kmoch with breach of peace. Police released Kmoch on a written promise to appear in court on December 11.

Currituck Stop

About 12:30 pm November 28, police stopped motorist Cynthia Gesualdi, 45, of 3 Papoose Hill Road near 11 Currituck Road to investigate a violation.

Police said they charged Gesualdi with illegal use of a handheld cellphone while driving and also with driving while under suspension.

Police released Gesualdi on a written promise to appear in court on December 12.

Sandy Hook DUI

Police report that at about 12:10 am on November 27, they stopped motorist William Decker, 37, of 131 High Rock Road for speeding on Berkshire Road (Route 34), near its intersection with Sherman Street.

Police said that after giving Decker sobriety tests, they charged him with driving under the influence and with speeding. Decker posted $100 bail and was then released for a December 11 court appearance, police report.

Route 302

While driving a 2004 Nissan Frontier pickup truck westward on Route 302 at about 6:45 am November 28, motorist Deborah Springmeyer, 45, of 41 Bears Hill Road encountered a deer that had run out onto the street, police said. The truck and the deer collided. Springmeyer was not injured.

Mazda Crash

Motorist Beth Culhane, 36, of Southbury was driving a 2000 Mazda station wagon southward on Hawleyville Road, near Covered Bridge Road, about 5 pm November 29, when a deer ran onto the street and collided with the auto, police report.

Neither Culhane, nor two small child passengers, were injured, police said.

Slippery Street

Motorist Barbara Remmers, 45, of Athens, Ga., was driving a 1998 Toyota Camry northward on Toddy Hill Road, near Berkshire Road, during slippery conditions about 8:45 am November 30, when while negotiating a curve, the Toyota slid into the southbound lane and then went off the southbound road shoulder, police said.

Remmers was not injured. Police issued her a written warning for failure to drive to the right.

Off the Road

Motorist Jason Mayo, 27, of Walker Hill Road was driving as 1997 Honda Accord eastward on a slippery Serenity Lane about 9:45 am November 30, when, while traveling downhill, he applied the brakes but could not slow down, police said. The Honda slid off the eastbound road shoulder.

Mayo was not injured. Police issued him a written warning for traveling too fast for conditions.

South Main Street

Motorist Harold Haase, 76, of 110 Taunton Hill Road was driving a 2000 Ford Ranger pickup truck northward on South Main Street about 11:50 am November 25, when a southbound noncontact vehicle made a left turn in front of him, resulting in Haase applying his brakes, but then going into a skid on the wet road, police said.

The Ford slid into the rear end of a northbound 2002 Volvo S-80 sedan driven by Jan Wilson-Newman, 55, of 11 Sealand Drive, who was waiting to make a left turn onto Elm Drive, according to police.

There were no injuries. Police said they verbally warned Haase for failure to drive a reasonable distance apart.

Evading Vehicle

Sometime between 11 pm on November 28, and 7 am on November 29, an unknown motorist collided with two residential mailboxes located on Taunton Ridge Road, near its intersection with Great Hill Road. The driver’s side of the offending vehicle likely would be damaged by the impact, police said. Police ask anyone with information on the incident to contact Officer Richard Monckton at the police station at 3 Main Street, telephone 426-5841.

Grand Cherokee

Motorist Mabel Cimmino, 61, of 28 Honey Lane was driving a 2005 Jeep Grand Cherokee westward on Lyrical Lane about 12:30 pm November 25, when a deer ran out onto the street and collided with the vehicle, police said. Cimmino was not injured. Police took no enforcement.

Nissan Collision

Motorist Jason Kovac, 55, of Seymour was driving a 2006 Nissan Altima sedan southward on Berkshire Road (Route 34), near Zoar Road, when a deer entered the road and collided with the auto, police report. Kovac was not injured. Police took no enforcement.

Scion Coupe

Police report that motorist Kelly Bohm, 22, of Shelton was driving a 2005 Scion TC coupe eastward on Berkshire Road, near its intersection with Great Quarter Road, about 6:13 pm November 22, when a deer ran onto the street and collided with the auto. Bohm was not injured. Police took no enforcement.

Queen Street

Motorist Haley Keane, 17, of 11 Tory Lane, who was driving a 2001 Honda CRV SUV southward on Queen Street, stopped at a red traffic signal at Queen Street’s intersection with the main entrance to Newtown Shopping Village at about 6:45 pm November 12, police said.

Southbound motorist Robert Wing, 77, of 301 South Main Street, who was driving a 1995 Buick LeSabre, then struck the rear end of the Honda, according to police. There were no injuries. Police issued Wing an infraction for failure to drive a reasonable distance apart.

DUI Incident

Police report they saw motorist Dennis Nichols, 54, of Danbury driving a 2007 Toyota eastward on Mt Pleasant Road, which then entered a parking lot at a commercial plaza at 147 Mt Pleasant Road at about 1:52 am November 30.

Police said that there were no businesses open at the plaza, so they investigated why Nichols had stopped there.

After giving Nichols field sobriety tests, police charged him with driving under the influence.

Police released Nichols on $100 bail for a December 16 appearance in Danbury Superior Court.

DUI Case

Police report they saw motorist Matthew Wilkie, 57, of Southbury swerving and then cross the road’s center line while driving on Glen Road, near Pine Street, about 2 am November 30, so they stopped him to investigate.

Police said they charged Wilkie with driving under the influence and with failure to drive to the right. After processing, police released Wilkie on $100 bail for a December 16 court appearance.

Wasserman Way

About 5:11 pm November 19, motorist Laura Ferretti, 43, of East Haven was driving a 2004 Dodge Intrepid eastward on Wasserman Way when a deer ran out onto the road and collided with the auto, police said. Ferretti was not injured. Police took no enforcement.

Church Hill Road

On the evening of November 26, motorist Jody Murphy, 43, of 4 Clearview Drive, who was driving a 2006 Ford Freestyle SUV eastward on Church Hill Road, stopped for traffic conditions, after which the Ford was struck from behind by an eastbound 1997 Dodge Caravan minivan driven by Matthew McCarthy, 52, of 31 Bennetts Bridge Road, police said.

Murphy reported minor neck pain, but declined medical attention, police said. Police issued McCarthy a written warning for failure to drive a reasonable distance apart.

Sandy Hook Center

About 5 pm December 1, motorist Chris J. Cain III, 26, of Ridge Road, who was driving a 1998 Buick sedan, was exiting a parking lot near 100 Church Hill Road and attempting to make a left turn onto westbound Church Hill Road, police aid.

At that time, motorist Roseanne Rietdyke, 47, of Woodbury was driving a 2008 Lincoln sedan eastward on Church Hill Road, police said.

The two vehicles collided. There were no injuries.

Police issued Cain a written warning for failure to grant the right of way. Police issued Rietdyke a written warning for unsafe passing.

Car Vs Pole

Motorist Soto-Vargas Edel, 28, of Danbury was driving a 2000 Lincoln LS eastward on High Bridge Road about 8:30 am December 1, when while coming around a corner, he lost control of the auto, spun sideways and struck a utility pole along the left side of the street, police said.

Edel was not injured. Police issued him an infraction on charges of traveling too fast for conditions and for driving without a license.

Evading Responsibility

A local man left his 2008 Honda Civic sedan in the parking lot at Caraluzzi’s Market at 5 Queen Street from about 11:30 am to 12:30 pm on November 24, after which he returned and found that another vehicle had damaged the front passenger side of the Honda, police said.

Police ask anyone with information on the matter to contact investigating Officer William Chapman at the police station at 426-5841.

Multiple Charges

State police last week charged Ian V. Guilfoil, 18, of Copper Creek Circle with three counts of risk of injury or impairing the morals of a minor, and also with one count of second-degree reckless endangerment.

State police said Guilfoil turned himself over to them at Troop A in Southbury after learning that they held a warrant for his arrest based on their investigation into the unspecified incident which prompted the charges.

Guilfoil was released on $1,000 bail for a December 8 appearance in Danbury Superior Court.

Road Rage

State police report a road rage incident on eastbound Interstate 84 that occurred about 2:40 pm November 28.

The case remains under investigation, state police said. There were no injuries.

The incident involved motorists Christopher Kachur, 44, of Southbury, who was driving a 2008 Ford Edge SUV; motorist Judd Baggett, 17, of 26 Hall Lane, who was driving a 1999 Volvo V-70; and the unspecified driver of a 2003 Chevrolet Silverado pickup truck, which is registered to New England Landscaping and Management of Ridgefield, state police said.

State police said the drivers of the Chevrolet and the Volvo “were involved in some type of road rage… incident on I-84 eastbound at the Exit 10 on-ramp in Newtown.”

The Volvo stopped for the Chevrolet, which had stopped in the right-center lanes, state police said.

After the driver of the Chevrolet got out of the vehicle and approached the Volvo, the Volvo driver put the Volvo in reverse to get away from the Chevrolet driver, state police said.

In backing up, the Volvo struck the front end of the Ford, state police said. The Chevrolet driver then fled the scene. State police cited Baggett, who was driving the Volvo, for unsafe backing.

State police said the driver of the Chevrolet has been located and charges are being pursued against that person.

Warrant

After learning that police held a warrant for his arrest, Ricardo Murillo, 27, of Stratford turned himself in at the police station on the night of December 3, and was charged with second-degree failure to appear in court, driving while under suspension, and with a turn signal violation, police said.

The original charges stem from an incident that occurred in June 2005, according to police.

After he posted $500 bail, police released Murillo for a December 18 appearance in Danbury Superior Court.

Snow-Covered Road

While traveling southward on snow-covered pavement near 237 Hattertown Road at about 10 am November 30, motorist Joan Vecchia, 47, of Bethel, who was driving a 2002 Nissan Sentra, was negotiating a curve but skidded on the slippery surface and entered the northbound lane, police said.

The Nissan then collided with northbound motorist Stephen Paine, 42, of Milford, who was driving a 2005 Toyota Camry, police said.

There were no injuries. Police said they verbally warned Vecchia for traveling too fast for conditions. Additionally, police said they issued Vecchia a summons on charges of driving without automotive insurance and  driving an unregistered vehicle.
