Art Exhibit

Newtown High School Art Portfolio students will be exhibiting a collection of their work Thursday, December 11, through Saturday, December 20. This is a presentation by college bound high school seniors who are creating works for their portfolios with the intention of having the work viewed during the college admissions process.

The public is invited to meet the young artists during reception to be held on Sunday, December 14, from 2 to 4 pm.

The collection can be viewed any time the library is open.

Children’s Programs

*Holiday Sing-Along: Francine Wheeler will return to the library to lead children in a holiday sing-along on Monday, December 15, at 10 am, in the library meeting room.

No registration is necessary, and the program is recommended for all ages.

Adult & Family Programs

*Book Discussions: Daytime Book Group will talk about The Passion of Artemesia by Susan Vreeland on Tuesday, December 9, at 1 pm.

Multiple copies of the book are available at the circulation desk. Everyone is invited!

*Great Fireside Reads: Coming this winter, we will introduce a new book discussion series, “Great Fireside Reads: The Novel in the 19th and 20th Centuries.”

We’ll be studying great authors who created tales with memorable characters, gripping plots, vividly detailed settings, and moral questions that are as relevant today as when they were first published. Join us this winter for a four part reading and book discussion of some classic novels which explore the wide range of the human experience.

The four-part series will be led by Julie Stern and will meet on Tuesdays at 7:30 pm.

The discussion calendar is as follows: Oliver Twist by Charles Dickens on January 13, Frankenstein by Mary Shelley on February 24, The Age of Innocence by Edith Wharton on March 17, and A Prayer for Owen Meany by John Irving on April 21.

C.H. Booth Library is open Monday through Thursday, 9:30 am to 8 pm; Friday from 11 am to 5 pm; Saturday, 9:30 am to 5:30 pm; and Sunday from noon to 5 pm (closed Sundays in July and August).
