Weather Will Not Be A Deterrent For Tonight's Tree Lighting

With forecasts calling for more rain this weekend, organizers of the Sandy Hook Village Tree Lighting say this weekend’s event will go on rain or shine.

The annual event is scheduled for Saturday, December 6.

Sandy Hook Organization for Prosperity (SHOP) Marketing Director Melissa Lopata that SHOP is expecting “many visitors” for the annual event, and the business organization is taking additional steps to make sure people enjoy the event regardless of the weather.

“There will be a tent sent up so that kids can meet Santa and stay dry,” Ms Lopata said Friday, December 5. “There will also be a tent for the karaoke performances.

According to Weather Underground the chance of rain this evening is near 100 percent, however temps will remain in the low 40s through the 7pm hour. Light snow may develop after midnight with little or no snow accumulation as temps drop to the upper 20s. 

Starting at 4 pm local businesses will be offering special treats, activities and discounts for visitors.”

In addition to special offers and treats being offered by businesses in the Church Hill Road-Washington Avenue-Riverside Road-Glen Road district, Santa Claus is scheduled to arrive at 5 pm, karaoke will be led by The Graceful Planet from 5 to 6:30 pm.

Both trees in the center of the village will be lit at 6:30 pm. The traditional tree at the corner of Church Hill Road and Washington Avenue has been decorated with colorful strings of lights, while the newer tree on the opposite corner, at 2 Riverside Road, has again been covered with white and green lights.

Caroling will overlap the karaoke, with Jackie Gaudet & Friends leading the singing from 5:30 to 7 pm.
