Hannah Y. Cyr, 18, unexpectedly passed away on Tuesday, December 1 in West Greenwich, R.I. On April 2, 2002, in Danbury this world became a brighter place when Hannah Yubal Cyr was born, the daughter to Lizabeth (Yubal) Cyr and the late Roger Cyr, Jr.

Her love and spirit will live on in her mother, Liz Cyr, and stepfather, Don Smith, of West Warwick, R.I.; brother, Caleb Cyr, of West Warwick, R.I.; stepbrothers, Neal Smith and his wife, Julie McCarthy, of Newton, Mass., and Sean Smith of Seattle, Wash.; her paternal grandparents, Roger and Debbie Cyr, of Newtown; maternal grandmother, Lourdes Yubal, of Cebu, Philippines; great-grandparents, Sal and Dolores Dipreta; her Aunt Melissa Cyr, Uncle Matt Cyr, Uncle David DeSanto, and Aunt Dawn Feret. She is survived by several other loving aunts, uncles, cousins, and friends. She is predeceased by her father Roger Cyr, Jr, and maternal grandfather, BuenaVentura Yubal.

Hannah was a well-rounded young lady. She was athletic, friendly, intelligent, and respected by both friends and teachers alike. She was in her freshman year at the University of Rhode Island, where she was just beginning to see what life had in store for her. In her days at West Warwick High School, she was active on several sports teams and was a captain of the division champion volleyball team in 2020, cultivating many timeless friendships. She was student body president of her junior class and a member of the student council.

Hannah was adventurous and had a curious soul. She traveled to Paris, Haiti, Aruba, Philippines, Mexico, and several other places. Hannah’s worldly experience gave her a different perspective, which led to an advanced sense of responsibility for others. She was grateful for what she had and had everything she needed. Her “wants” turned into charity and charity into wisdom. Instead of receiving birthday presents, she donated 100 pairs of sandals to poverty-stricken children that had nothing at all on their feet. Hannah was an extraordinary person who had so much to offer to this world. Even though her short yet exuberant life has ended, her compassion will live on within those she touched.

Family and friends are welcome to attend a Mass of Christian Burial at 9 am on Saturday, December 12, at St Gregory The Great Church, 360 Cowesett Road, Warwick, RI. Facial coverings must be worn and social distancing must be practiced. Burial will be in Newtown and will be private.

The funeral Mass will be livestreamed on the church’s home page at stgregorychurchri.com.

In lieu of flowers, please make a donation to the charity of your choice. Remembrances may be shared at carpenterjenks.com.
