Margaret “Peg” Theresa Hogenauer

Peg Hogenauer, 95 years young, passed away on December 4. She was born on July 31, 1925, to the late Francis and Elizabeth (Fitzmaurice) Scholan in Waterbury.

She lived in Newtown for 57 years before moving to Oxford, N.C., with her daughter four years ago.

She is survived by her children Ed Hogenauer (Shelley) of Newtown, Alfred Hogenauer (Erika) of Boise, Idaho, Peggy Velthuizen (Andre) of Oxford, N.C., John Hogenauer (Sharyn) of New Milford, and Robert Hogenauer (Judi) of Lake Elsinore, Calif.; 12 grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; and her best friend, Maggie Sorrentino, of Newtown.

She was predeceased by her husband and one true love, John Hogenauer, in 1998.

She worked at Harvey Hubbell in Newtown for over 20 years, before retiring in 1987.

She was an active member of St Rose Parish, volunteering at the carnival, knitting prayer shawls, and working at Dorothy Day Hospitality House. Once she moved to Oxford, she joined St James Catholic Church in Henderson, N.C., and the Oxford Woman’s Club.

A Mass of Christian burial will be held on December 16 at 10:30 am at St Rose of Lima in Newtown for family and friends.

A Celebration of Life will be planned in the summer of 2021.

In lieu of flowers, a donation may be made to Dorothy Day Hospital House in Danbury at dorothydaydanbury.org; or to ACIM Food Bank in Oxford, N.C.
