Better In Newtown?

To the Editor:

Better in Newtown. I think not! I am dismayed to hear that the town has dismissed Tom Mahoney from his position of managing the Edmond Town Hall. (The Newtown Bee, October 30, 2020, “Theatre Coordinator Released As ETH Grapples With Losses.”)

Tom has faithfully kept the theater operational, providing the town with top line productions at a base line cost. This has helped our young, as well as our senior citizens, to have affordable entertainment. Tom has done an excellent job during his tenure of 39 years. We would be hard pressed to find anyone to fill his shoes as well as he has done. He is an example of a true gentlemen. Is this the way we treat our dedicated employees when times get tough?

With all of the money that is spent in this town, I find it difficult to believe that we couldn’t find in our hearts to resolve this issue in a more kindly manner.

Possibly part time, a furlough? It seems in this upside down world that we find ourselves in we have forgotten two very important words: Respect and Responsibility. If we followed those two words to the letter our society would be much better off.
