Leora “Ann” (Carpenter) Moore, age 83, formerly of Newtown, passed away peacefully Sunday, December 6, at the Lutheran Home of Southbury. Ann was born on December 19, 1936, in Carmel, California, to Nola and Richard Carpenter. She graduated from Pacific Grove High School (1954) and later received an associate’s degree from Monterey Peninsula College (1956). Ann married her beloved husband, James Moore, at All Saints’ Episcopal Church in Watsonville, Calif., on September 8, 1962. The couple first established roots in Ringwood, N.J., and in 1979 moved to Newtown.

Ann was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, and friend. She was a fantastic cook and loved to host dinner for family and friends in her home. Family holiday celebrations always included an invitation to friends to stop by. Ann enjoyed embroidery, quilting, and sewing projects. In addition to being a talented seamstress, she was an avid knitter who often made sweaters, hats, scarves, and mittens for her grandchildren and charities. Ann worked as an office secretary and a library assistant at Newtown Middle School. Post retirement, she was appreciative for the opportunity to travel. Some of her favorite places included Alaska, Maine, Greece, Italy, and Bermuda. Ann was known for her tremendous patience, keen sense of humor, and the reserved and thoughtful way she engaged with others.

Throughout her life Ann was guided by her faith. As an active member of Trinity Episcopal Church in Newtown, Ann served on the Altar Guild, cooked for Dorothy Day House in Danbury, and was involved in many outreach ministries. Additionally, Ann was a member of the Newtown Woman’s Club and was a devoted volunteer for Meals on Wheels.

Ann was preceded in death by her husband, James; brother, Richard Carpenter; and sisters, Judith Paljetak and Brook Hoffman. She is survived by her four children: daughter Shannon Wiggers and husband, Gary, of Old Tappan, N.J.; son Patrick and wife, Susan, of Upton, Mass.; son Scott of Belmont, Mass.; and son Darrin and wife, Alison, of Louisville, Colo. She is also survived by her six cherished grandchildren: Tyler, Clayton, Taylor, Madelyn, Wesley, and Anya.

A private family service will be held at the Trinity Church Memorial Garden.
